Miyuki The Candy Lady In Japan

try to get there early so that you can get to the front. She is very picky about who she chooses for a creation. My DD was quiet and polite and I like to think that helped her be chosen. Some parents just turned their children loose to scream "me, me, choose me!" at the top of their lungs while pushing others out of the way. She was very patient, even remade one little girls item after she carelessly stuck it in the drying fan after being warned that it was delicate. If it had been me, I think I would have said "told you not to do that", and made her wait till the end. Guess I've been a parent too long.

Thank you everyone for posting those amazing photos!!! And thank you for the tips! These are the things that you see on paper, but don't really understand the magic of until it is brought to your attention! Each trip we try to find our "treasure" of unique experiences, and this one just got added to the list! This is why I sooo appreciate y'all posting your experiences here! :cloud9:

how long does it take her to make one, is the line long? Is there a certain time(s) of day she comes out?

just full of q's

thanks :cool1:

We haven't met her yet. Will make sure though to watch out for her. Those candie shapes are really something! :thumbsup2

We are definitely going to check this out when we go in Oct. Those pictures are amazing. They look too pretty to eat!

It is such fun to watch her make the candy animals. She made a tiger for my DD a couple years ago. As another poster noted, she is good about rewarding the well behaved children. It probably takes her 4 to 5 minutes to make an animal (maybe less). It's amazingly fast. She talks so fast it makes you think it took longer.

We LOVE the candy lady. She really made my son's trip extra special. We caught the end of a "show" and my son was crushed that he didn't get a special candy. I was explaining to him that we would have to come back because she only makes so many. She overheard me talking to him and told him that if he did come back to the next show, she would make his candy first. We talked to her a bit - and she told us she was training her daughter to make candy but she complained it was too hot. And boy it sure is! The candy lady talks the whole time while she's making the candy - "shiny, shiny, shiny" is a favorite phrase of ours now :rotfl:

(oh - sorry we don't have any pictures. she made a dolphin. I caught DS eating the thing the next morning and he said it didn't taste very good - so warm your kids is to look at, not to eat!)

I took some pics just for the DIS boards! First one is a dolphin, the second is a unicorn.

Thank you so much for posting everyone! Especially the unicorn photo!! That is exactly the animal that my DD7 said she would ask for the Candy Lady to make for her if she got chosen. I hope that we are able to catch her show.

Does she only make candy for the kids or will she pick out a couple of adults in the crowd?? Looking forward to seeing her work her magic when we go next month!

Others on the boards may have had a different experience, but when I saw her she was very vocal about making the candies for children only (and young ones at that) even though there were several groups of adults and older children that had waited near her booth long before some of the latecoming children who were selected.

I'd say if you're 7 and under, you probably have a good chance of being selected. If not, pray for a very empty day.

When I saw her in 2002 she made candies for everyone that was directly next to the cart, regardless if they were children or adults. She made me an Elephant, my sister a Giraffe, and our friend a scorpion (oohhh scary candy...scary scary candy). We did not take pictures and they broke when we tried to take them home to shopw everyone. I hope she still makes them for adults, I don't have children and would love to have one made next time I go. She was so fun to watch!

We were there in August and she made my son a blue porcupine. She was taking requests from adults as well as from kids so it's anyone's guess. "Rice starch, just like corn syrup."

Thanks for the info! I'm kinda hoping we'll at least be able to see her designs in person, and maybe even score one of them. One can hope...we are not traveling with kids, so maybe it'll be a sloooooow day!!

Someone asked the question about how long it takes her to make each one - I'm going to say a minute and a half or 2 minutes TOPS on each one. It really is amazing how quickly she creates the details with her hands and her tools. One of our favorite treasure we have found at WDW in a long time!

my son has been fortunate enough to have been picked twice over the last few years. once he asked for a tiger that was quite cool and on our last trip when picked he asked for a green eagle. (can you tell we are from philly???)

we were there after she started for one show, but my son polietly asked when she would be returning for her next show, we waited for her return and she remembered him from earlier and picked him for an animal. polite is the key. even if he does not get picked, he loves watching her make the different animals.

She made a beautiful dolphin for my daughter back in 05 . I will have to see if i can find the pic of it. As was mentioned before with so many people crowding her, she does pick the polite ones first.
