I am so very sorry for your loss. We had our sweet little corgi die a year ago, and had to put our cat to sleep (due to cancer) a year before that. There is nothing I can say to you to make it easier!!! Just know he is up at the Rainbow Bridge playing with my Donna the dog and BJ the cat!! :sad1:

Do you need any hints/tips on anything in particular? I would be happy to help you as best I can.

Patti (good name huh)

No suggestions....just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss. We have a dog named Mickey Mouse :goodvibes and I can understand your sadness. I am sure that your dog was loved and that he loved you back. Go and enjoy your trip together as a family. If there is anything I can answer about your trip, just let me know :)

We just had to do the same, for our 12 year old Chocolate Lab in Feb about 2 mos. after returning from WDW. She really took a turn for the worst just after Christmas. It is very tough to accept that you did the right thing and kept them from suffering. The best I can offer is to remember the good life you provided while they were healthy and great times you shared.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so painful to go through. The time you all will have together on your vacation will be so good for all of you. You all will need a lot of time to heal.
God bless.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We just put down our beloved Maltese "JO JO" about 2 months ago. He was in great health, but slide down approx 4 steps and injured his patella. Since that time he didn't improve despite medicines and treatments. He then started having seizures and we knew it was "time". My DD12 and DS6 really took it hard...he was the only dog that they knew. I have to tell you it does get better. :sad1: My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. :grouphug:

Sorry about the lost of your dog. I had to put down my 12 year boxer on New Years Eve. She died of kidney failer. She was such a kind dog. Her younger sister is still heartbroken 4 months later. You can tell she misses her.

As far as suggestions go I think just to focus on the fun things your family will have at WDW. Maybe plan something you would not normally do. Ice Cream always cheers me up. Maybe share The Kitchen Sink at Beaches & Cream!

I am so sorry to hear about your beautiful dog. I also have a 7 year old Golden Retriever. They are the most beautiful and special dogs. My heart is full of hurt for you right now.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. As someone that has had dogs as family members my whole life, I know what you are going through.

Like another poster recommended, plan something extra special for your family to do on their trip.

 to you and your family. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard loosing a family pet. In 2004 we had to put our beloved 12-year-old Rottie down due to arthritis (it had paralyzed her and there was no hope of recovery). It broke our hearts - she was our baby. We still think of her and I think we always will.

As to any tips about your upcoming trip...it will be hard I'm sure. I wish I could think of some kind of tip to make the trip easier. Was this a trip for a special occasion? If it wasn't, you could make it into one. How about: you and your family are going to WDW because you are happy being in the happiest place on earth, and you know that DiMaggio is in a happy place too now (not sick anymore and running around with all our furrybabies that went on ahead of your furbaby).

Corny I know, but it might help (hopefully).

My thoughts are with you all!

hugs,

I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is definately like losing a human member of your family. I was in a similar situation when I was 11 years old. We had to put my 13 year old German Shepard down because she was just getting to sick and it broke our hearts to see her in such pain. About a week after we put her down my parents took me and my siblings on our first trip to Disney. We drove down and the whole way we talked about our memories with our dog and what she was doing in heaven. While in Disney our parents told us that our dog was going to visit our house while we were gone and leave us a present. So while on the way home, we my siblings were excited about what the present could be. So we walked into our house and found a gift certificate for a brand new puppy. Of course the puppy couldn't replace my old dog, but it was nice to know that my old dog wanted us to be happy and let us give a new puppy a good home.

A few years ago I lost my deloved Sam-dog the black Lab....

I went to the pet shelter intending to get another, but just wasn't ready (Belle - the choc fat lab came later)....

At any rate, they had kennels that you could pay for a year, to keep animals in need in comfort until they were adopted.

I made a donation in Sam dog's name, for a run. At the end of the year, they gave me a list of all the dogs that had stayed there, and when they were adopted.

This made it a bit better for me... and kept Sam-dog alive in memory.

Just a suggestion,

Goldi

Just want to add my prayers and good wishes to you and your family. :grouphug: We lost our beloved Molly, an 11 year old golden to cancer last November. We miss her terribly but have comfort in knowing she is no longer in any pain.

Maybe when you first arrive at Disney you could gather your family together, purchase a balloon, and release it in memory of DiMaggio. Then take a deep breath, wipe away your tears and have a magical vacation. You've certainly earned it. God Bless!

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my two beloved twelve year old pets (cat and dog) within two months of each other two years ago. The hurt goes on, no matter how hard you try not to think about it. Now I couldn't imagine life without my Bowser, my German shepherd. Just remember this..."Shed no tears of sorrow for I am not gone. Believe in your heart I will be there. Believe in your heart and I am there." I hope your vacation can bring you a little happiness again.:grouphug:

Sorry for your loss. (((hugs)))

I echo what everyone else has written and hope that you are able to enjoy your time at WDW. Just remember the happy times with your pet and know that he is in a peacful place romping around with other pets. They call it Rainbow Bridge. :)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I CAN'T THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH FOR THE KIND WORDS ABOUT THE PASSING OF MY BELOVED DOG DIMAGGIO. IT IS JUST AMAZING TO ME HOW THE WORDS OF TOTAL STRANGERS ON THIS SITE COULD BRING SUCH COMFORT AND FOR THAT I SAY, THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO RESPOND. IT REALLY DOES HELP. WE BURIED DIMAGGIO IN HIS FAVORITE SPOT IN THE YARD WRAPPED IN A NEW YORK YANKEE BLANKET GIVEN TO US BY A WONDERFUL FRIEND, WITH A FEW OF HIS FAVORITE THINGS. I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT WE WILLL HAVE THE TIME AWAY AT WDW TO BE A FAMILY AND MAYBE NOT FOCUS ON THE SAD LOSS OF OUR BELOVED PET. AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR CARING.

WARM REGARDS,

PATTI:wizard:
