we will be going to these 2 restaurants during out upcoming trip. We are 24 and 50 and are not picky eaters really (with the exception of mushrooms). we'll be going to tepanyaki as part of a CP dinner package and 50s the night we get there if we're not exhausted form our flight. What menu items do you reccomend to have/avoid? hows the atmosphere? Dress attire? crowds? noise etc...

Thanks in advance

Colleen

Attire for both restaurants is resort casual, shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes are more the trend than the exception. Tepanyaki is kind of boring as far as hibachi restaurants go, but the food is good (though there is no fried rice). 50's Prime Time is quite tasty. DW and I like most of the offerings on the menu. The atmosphere here is a lot better if you play along. If you don't, your server will back off pretty quick, and you're left in a restaurant with a neat theme, but really lacking in atmosphere. It's o.k. to ham it up a little; you're @ WDW afterall.:)

I've had the pleasure of dining twice at 50's Primetime Cafe and both times the food was GREAT! I had the pot roast both times... NO MUSHROOMS (I HATE mushrooms too!). The atmosphere is a lot of fun. It reminds you of an old 50's house, with a touch of a "diner" look too (in my opinion). I love the "S'mores". It's a huge plate covered in thick graham crackers, then layered with chocolate squares and marshmallows, then they broil it briefly (or some kind of top-heating) because the marshmallows are toasted and its VERY delicious! Both times I was there, "Mom", our waitress gave us the dishes and silverware and asked us to set the table. lol We play along, its fun. :) As for noise, I don't remember it being overly noisy or anything. Sometimes a burst of laughter would erupt somewhere, or some cheering going on, but I've been in MANY other restaurants that were much noisier. There is no dress code, its casual. I've had a PS both times, so I don't know how the crowds would be if you just showed up. I'm sure it would depend which day and time of day you were there.

This is one restaurant that we always eat at when at WDW :)

These are two of my favorite WDW restaurants for completely different reasons.
50's prime time- I have found the food to be very good. In particular I love the fried chicken dinner. The menu consists mainly of "comfort" food. Meatloaf, fried chicken etc.
The atmosphere is that of a 1950's kitchen with TV's playing classic TV shows. The waitresses/waiters pretend to be family members and some of them really get into it. One time we had a waiter who was absolutely histerical. The more you play along with it the more they will.
Teppanyaki- This is very similar to a Bennihanna type restaurant. Since we don't have any near home it is a treat for me. You sit around a large table (8 people I believe) with a grill in the center while the chef cooks for you. You can get various combinations of steak, chicken, shrimp and scallops. All come with a salad, vegatables and rice and sauce for dipping. Unless you have a party of 8 they will sit you with other people which can be fun.

Hope this helps!! Enjoy

I've only done the Tepanyaki for lunch, but I had a great meal there and it's on my 'to-do-again' list for sure :) It's great fun and if you are lucky, your chef will perform all sorts of 'tricks' whilst cooking the food (some are better than others) so it can be a little noisy with the entertainment. I had a sort of Chicken and Shrimp combo and it was very tasty indeed.

50's has got to be one of my fav restaurants at WDW!!!! This past time that I went was one of the first times however that the wait staff really "played" with us - but we played back too. The food is great in my opinion. I've had the pot roast and the meatloaf and someone had the chicken and said it was very good too...

The only dessert I've had is the S'mores dessert - EXCELLENT!!!! There are 16 "squares" of marshmallows with chocolate bars under and then the graham crackers drizzled with chocolate and the marshmallows nicely toasted.......YUM YUM!!!

I hate mushrooms too so I can tell you that I did not encounter any at either of these 2 restaurants. At 50's I went once with my grandmother and it was sorta neat since our waiter was about 30 so he sorta acted like she was his grandma too. Another time our waiter loved my fiancé and I but constantly yelled at the table next to us for putting elbows on the table, etc. and used us as the example of his 'good kids' and made us little paper hats with nicknames he made up for us out of our placemats. It was great. And everytime I've eaten at Teppanyaki I have met so many interesting people that even though the food wasn't anything spectacular the experience made it that way. Don't get me wrong, I loved the food there too, but it was pretty comparable to other Japanese restaurants for me, but it's a great chance to sit back and relax from the frantic pace of WDW vacations and meet other vacationers totally different from you and see what they like, dislike, what they've seen, etc. Both restaurants were great experiences for me.

Although we haven't eaten at Tepanyaki, we have eaten at both Tempura Kiku and the Matsu No Ma Lounge, and found the food and service to be great. If Tempanyaki is comparible, you should like it!

As for 50's Primetime Cafe, it is our new favorite, and must do restaurant! The food is great... home cooked, and large servings. The servers are a riot, being either your mom, or your cousin. They may pick on you a bit... just like family, but they are funny and nice. The service is always efficient, and the food is always hot, plentiful and tasty... just like home! My favorites are the Pot Roast with Mashed Potatos and Green Beans, and for dessert the S'mores. My DH likes the Pot Roast and Meatloaf, and my Dad likes the Fried Chicken. It is definitely worth a trip, and you may also make it one of your not to be missed restaurants!

I like both of these restaurants a LOT! One thing to keep your eye on is when they're preparing the food at Teppanyaki, they DO have mushrooms ready to put in the food (it's cooked right in front of you) but it's easy to tell them to hold them - my husband hates them also! LOL As someone else said, the fried chicken at Prime Time is excellent, as is the meatlof .. and the pot roast .. heck, everything I've had there has been good. At Teppanyaki, everything is also good - I happen to like the tenderloin the best.

Ate at both restaurants this past week....food and atmosphere at PTC is excellent!!...
I enjoyed the food at the Teppanyaki but the other members of my party did not...our chef was more "chatty" than theatrical but it was still a nice experience.
Portions were large at both restaurants.
Will definitely return to PTC....most likely won't return to Teppanyaki.

I loved Teppanyaki - I went for lunch and thought the food and the service was good - although I wouldn't pay the dinner prices for the same meal. The shrimp and steak combo was very tasty and I also had scallops as an appetizer.

Also had lunch at Prime time and the deep fried Boursin Cheese was great as well as the Meat loaf although I didn't eat all my greens and well there was fun to be had on that score from our server. Needless to say I was nearly forcefed them :)
