Mission Space

You should definately try it- But do it toward the end of the vacation and make it the last ride of the night. And dont eat anything funky before. lol. Have I scared you yet? Really, it is a TOTALLY cool concept/ride/building. And I did get over the feeling- eventually. Im glad I did it. But.....I wont do it again.
:)

Hi, I am usurping my husband's computer time here to tell you about my experience with Mission Space.

Uncleromulus and our two friends bowed out of taking the ride last week when we were at Epcot; however, I just couldn't pass it up. I was pretty nervous after having read everyone's experiences at this forum. Also, as you are about to enter the pavillion you see the warnings about high blood pressure, heart problems, etc. -- which is pretty much par for the course at many of the rides at Disney; however, there were so many warnings even inside the ride that I was beginning to wonder if I were wise to take the "mission" on. Fortunately, I met a very nice fellow in line who was also new to the ride and whose wife had also opted out of the ride, and we pretty much talked about a variety of topics to keep our minds off what might be waiting for us! (It also helped that there was another couple in line about my age who had taken the ride already and called it "fantastic" and warned me to keep my eyes centered and open during the ride.)

Well... with some trepidation, I was finally seated and ready for take-off. I kept my eyes focused, and must admit I wasn't cognizant of the sensation of spinning. And the g-forces weren't as bad as I feared they'd be. I will say, however, that the first few seconds of the ride are INTENSE and I did feel slightly queasy for a second or so -- but this passed very quickly. And then I just found it to be incredibly fun. A great ride. I LOVED IT. I would have gotten on the ride again had it not been for the fact that Uncleromulus and friends were ready to move on after having waited for me to have my "mission" experience.

I think it was more nervousness than the ride that made me slightly queasy for the first second or two of the ride. With all those warnings posted outside the attraction and then during the pre-ride movie and then the offer to "opt out" right before you board the simulator -- well, who wouldn't be nervous?? My new friend said the ride made him a little queasy, but he had eaten 30 minutes before taking the mission. (Not a good idea.)

I would recommend the ride to those who don't mind spinning rides. I like the Primevil Whirl (the spinning roller coaster) and all the simulator rides at Disney so the ride was a good experience for me. I told Uncleromulus it was NOT his kind of ride -- he hates spinning and simulator rides.

I'd give it a "thumbs up."

Ericthewise, you mentioned worrying about the effects of weightlessness. I was worried about that, too, but it didn't bother me at all. It's not that long a span of time, and it feels pretty cool.

PixieMagic, there is the ability to "opt" out of the ride prior to the actual boarding of the simulator. Frankly, I think you're right to avoid this ride. I don't think it's for you. It always makes me sad, too, to have to avoid certain attractions at Disney. I no longer do the TOT because I can't stand being raised and dropped in quick succession numerous times -- I was better off when they only dropped you once. TOT doesn't make me sick -- it just scares me silly! Which is too bad because the special effects on that ride are so very good. And I've never been on the RnR coaster because I hate the idea of going upside down.

But I love Mission Space.

Go figure!:D

My sistser rode it first and talked me into going on by telling me that you don't even notice you're spinning. The spinning was all I was worried about but that didn't bother me at all; however, the G-forces did! As others have said it is really intense! You really do feel like you have just taken off in a rocket. Is was much too realistic for me. The G-forces made it feel like someone dropped cement bricks onto my chest and I couldn't move. I really thought I was having a heart attack at one point & was looking around for a panic button or something. I couldn't even focus on my surroundings I was in such a panic so I don't know if one is there or not. I certainly wasn't following any instructions and my sister was yelling at me..."you're not pushing your buttons!" Because I got myself so worked up my heart would not stop pounding for the rest of the evening. I would never do this ride again but after having experienced it I think others I have been afraid to try won't seem so bad like Test Track & TOT.

Just got back and this ride was one of the highlights of our trip! My grandmother surprised us by coming up to Disney with my sister so my husband and I were able to ride while she watched the kids!

It was unbelieveable! We loved it and didn't feel sick at all.

The only thing that was funky for me was that during takeoff, my chest felt so unbelieveably heavy and I felt like I couldn't breathe (even though I could) for a couple seconds. But overall it was a wonderful experience and feeling for me.

I think it depends on the person. I am ultra-sensitive and always seasick, but I have no problem with 'fake' rides, like Star tour or Body War. But this one got me so sick I was in the bathroom for half an hour afterwards. I was glad I didn't eat anything before heading there, and I saw at least 3 people who almost passed out.

I was prepared, and I tried to look at teh monitor. But after a while I just had to close my eyes (DH said that make it worse). It felt *very* real. I couldn't lift my hands, and I could feel my face being pulled. The bottom line is, they spin you to give you the G force, and if you're sensitive to that, be ready. I'm glad I get on, but never again. I am not so sure if I'd recommend to seniors, or really young kids.

Try it still if you think you can handle it. The worst is... you experienced the ride of your life, and then threw up later. :)
