I'll be headed to WDW in about 3 weeks with 7 others and we're hoping that Mission: Space at Epcot will be open while we are there. Now, I haven't yet talked to anyone who has ridden it but i have heard that people are coming off with upset stomachs. Me personally am a whip.... I love Rock N Rollercoaster (no dips) but I can't get myself to go on ToT. I'm not sure what type of ride it is but I'm guessing it's a virtual reality type ride where you sit in a room and the whole room moves and honestly I don't mind that but if there's more.. and if anyone that's ridden it thinks I should avoid it PLEASE tell me. Thanks alot!!

Well, go on an empty stomach and follow their directions of not lifting your head and looking around. Look straight forward. Yes, people were definitely getting sick after they got off the ride, not me, dh, or ds, but there were a few actually getting sick. I don't know how many just felt sick. It is a motion simulator, but it's the best there is!

Through a friend who is a cast member, I got the chance to ride Mission: Space twice in a row, during a cast preview last week. (What an amazing experience THAT was: the ride queue was EMPTY, the building was deserted, and we had the place to ourselves!)

The ride is, to my mind, the next generation of Star Tours -- but with a lot more OOMPH, especially during the first 30 seconds. It's quite an experience; to my mind, a very good ride, but not what I would call a great one. (I rode Spiderman at Universal for the first time the next day, and THAT is a GREAT ride!)

Anywho: like a previous poster noted...follow the directions, keep your head forward, and you'll be fine. I felt a wee bit wobbly afterwards, but not at all sick.

Enjoy!

Been there, Done that, and wont' do it again - lol

We (me, DH, Ds's) rode it last Sunday - July 20, 2003. The kids - ages 14, 11, 9, didn't have any problems and rode it 3 times that day but hubby and I had problems. I was off kilter for at least 4 hours after that ride and my husband - who normally doesn't have any problems with any kind of ride - was upset for 2 days.

I knew from reading the boards before our trip that we had to focus on the screen, don't turn our heads or close our eyes - but we still didn't survive - lol.

It is a fantastic ride and am glad we rode it , but I won't do it again.

Guess I'm getting too old - lol

Been on it twice. Liked it the 1st time, and LOVED it the 2nd. If you are on the fence, like my DD was, definitely give it another go.... she came off the 2nd time saying it was one of her favorite attractions at WDW.

What is it? Like a movie, rollercoaster? I have heard of it, but I have never really understood what it is.

The ride takes place in a capsule of 4 seats with overhead harnesses. The screens and switches and buttons envelop you in the whole "space" experience--it really seems that you're in a space capsule. The instrument panel comes up to you just before the actual ride starts so the riders are almost reclining. There are all kinds of cautions about not riding if you are bothered by enclosed spaces, darkness, loud noises and spinning. It's only dark for a second, the noises aren't that loud and I've been more confined than that. The forces when you take off may bother some. There aren't a lot of bumps, and the small screem directly in front of you plays out what you are supposed to be flying into.

I can't handle a lot of spinning, such as the tea cups, or I can only do the whirl thing at AK so many times. I kept my eyes ahead on the screen and tried to really focus on it, with head back. I did better without motion sickness medicine than with. Didn't have an entirely empty stomach, but it had been at least a half hour since I'd eaten. After the first time I rode, I was a little disoriented after I got off, but it passed. I liked it more each time I rode. They create a whole experience, not just a ride.

My wife and I just rode it yesterday. First, I am prone to motion sickness on everything. i can tolerate RockRcoaster but NOT body wars. Mission Space was more a body wars experience for me. ( yes, I know they are different mechanics). My wife who doesn't get motion sick, got very motion sick on MS. Neither of us will ride again, but both of us thought it was well done, and I'm sure it will be very popular.

My family rode MS last week and we all liked the ride, no one got sick. Blast off was a little scary, but I was OK with the rest. We arrived at 4pm but had to wait until 5pm for the ride to open.

We rode it a few weeks ago. I am terribly prone to motion sickness, cannot ride Star Tours, Body Wars or TOT without feeling bad the rest of the day but I was determined to try this ride. I headed all of the warnings, keep your head back, focus on the screen, don't look around, don't close your eyes (I usually close my eyes in virtual reality rides) I was a little woozy at the end but I sat down in the post show area for about 10 minutes and I felt fine. Nothing like the feeling I get for the rest of the day after TOT.

This ride is a centrifuge but it's so smooth, you don't notice the spinning. I felt a little uncomfortable during the landing sequence, probably from the video at that point, but I don't think the spinning bothered me like I thought it might. DH and DS rode the ride again later in the day, but I decided not to risk it since we had just had dinner. The ride did not bother them at all, they loved it.
