Does anyone know when Mission: Space is opening in Epcot? We were thinking of taking a trip during the Flower and Garden Festival and I was wondering if it would be open then.

I really hope it is open before our Thanksgiving trip! This sounds like a really cool ride!:smooth:

I had been so excited that it might open this spring as we once thought. Guess I'll just have to go back again in the fall. ;) We are leaving in the morning and I'll try to get the latest while I'm there.

Tink2, Welcome to the Dis!!

It was first supposed to open in spring... i believe the exterior is good to go, as for the inside who knows? I havent heard about this moving the date back to novmeber though... when did this come out?

I didn't hear that either and now I'm really ticked off. I have a trip planned in early Sept and one in late October and I figured surely it'd e open at least for the second trip, if not both. Hah. I should have remembered how badly Test Track's opening got screwed up. I can understand being off a little bit, but How can you be almost a year off in your estimate of opening something this huge? Then again, Mickey's Philharmagic isn't a huge attraction and it's been delayed big time too. I just don't understand.

The only date that has been officially published by Disney is 2003. If January 1, 2004 rolls around and still no Mission:Space, then we can truly say it is delayed or behind schedule. Until then, technically, there is no delay. We're all going off of rumors.

That may be true now, but there was a point, quite a few months ago, where Disney actually had a countdown clock going, counting down to the opening, and if I remember correctly, the date the clock was headed for was either March or April of 2003. Then that clock was removed. This signifies a delay to me.

I am hoping for a late fall opening too as my family will there the first week in December. Maybe, just maybe, there might be a soft opening if things are delayed.

I heard that since the Columbia tragedy, they put all final construction on delay. This would cause the opening to be delayed somewhat - I heard this about a month after the space shuttle disaster so it may have changed. . .

I've heard that to, and I, along with a lot of people, think that Disney is just using that as their excuse. I think they're using the Columbia tragedy to spin the PR related to Mission:Space so it doesn't look like there was an actual delay.

B'rer Karen,

You may be right; I know right after it happened there was talk that they were finalizing the construction and it would be opened in the fall of 2003 as an homage to those who perished in the disaster and then they decided, supposedly, that it as inappropriate to open it anytime soon so they halted the project. I would be interested to know if anyone has any new information.

I had read on another board and I believe someone posted something about it on this board , that they are now taking applications for team memebers to be transfered for training to the MS site. They said Disney would take apps for about 3 weeks train for another 3 weeks . So who knows when they are opening but at least the fact that they are opening up jobs there shows it is getting closer...

I am hoping for a soft opening while we are there in June . My DH really wants to ride this badly. He is a Space nut.

There are two people on the rumors board, one who has remarkably accurate info, who put out the November timeline.

Supposedly they are just trying to make it as accurate as possible. I know also that they are randomly selecting visitors to test ride it. Supposedly to keep the nausea factor down so that it is enjoyable for the masses.

I hope it opens before my trip the week before T-giving. What is the ride goingto be like??? Will it be like a launch or is it like a roller coaster? Just curious.
