Can anyone give me a basic rundown of this ride? What happens when you get on, what kind of seats you're in, how you're strapped in, how fast it moves/what directions, etc? We're trying to decide if our oldest should try it. Thank you!

1.) You enter the simulator pods, sit down and lower the restraints. They are a variant of the over-the-shoulder type things many roller coasters use, but primarily support your chest and abdomen so you don't slide around. The console tilts towards you so that you can reach the controls and see the monitors.

2.) The pods spin around in a circle around the central axis (with you facing the axis), plus they tilt and bank slightly (not unlike something like Star Tours). I don't know how many RPMs.

Here is a picture:

We rode Mission Space on our last trip and it was a great ride but quite intense. I felt a bit queazy :guilty: probably due to NOT looking straight ahead as directed. I was looking to make sure my 6 year old was looking straight ahead. He was fine and wanted to do it again. :woohoo: Son 8 opted not to ride.

It made me nauseaus but it was my 9 year old daughter's favorite thing at DW.

For me it involved a bucket, a damp cloth for my forehead and the words "NEVER EVER again"

If she wants to ride, I would let her. The way I think its only a simulator, she cant fall out like on a roller coaster. I didnt think it was that bad, all the hype about feeling sick etc, I was fine. When you q up, you can see the pod etc, so she can get right to the point of climbing in, and still chicken out. i think its 4 people to a pod. Though they let us as a family of 3 ride together on our own. you each get a position, like chief bomber or piolet (spelling?) you are told when to shot or press buttons, this doesnt atually do anything or control your mission. OK ride, thought TT was more scarey.

Amen, the best ride in Epcott bare none!!! I will never, ever, ever ride it again.

For me, it involved the barf bag and grossing out the 3 teenage girls in the pod.

If you get motion sickness, I would not suggest riding it. It is a great ride if you dont get motion sickness. Uh...the ride is about 3 times milder than it was when it opened...younger people dont have problems with it, but the older crowd (40s and up) doesn't do well...just a warning...I"m 14, rode with my parents and 2 of their friends (in their late 40's early 50's) My dad and I were fine, but the oldest of the group, my parents's friend, was so bad off he had to sit down while we went and rode test track...we then had to go back to the room for a couple hors so that he could rest....

The rundown of the ride---its a simulation of being in a space shuttle to mars, the ride is spinning so fast that you cant tell you are spinning.

wdwguide, I believe I see how you are comparing M:S and Star Tours (and I know you know this), but the ride systems are completely different.

M:S is basically a large centrifuge. Star Tours is a platform with seats that tilts forward and back and side to side.

What I meant to say is that the pods, in addition to spinning to create g-forces, also tilt and bank slightly (which most people either don't notice or mention). The tech is completely different, of course.

Thank you for all of the information and the links. It sounds like a souped up version of those old carnival rides that were like the spin cycle on a washing machine. Loved those! Guess I'll let the kids decide for themselves once we get there. :thumbsup2
