I just got off the phone with a friend who's currently at WDW. It seems that beginning tomorrow afternoon/evening Mission: Space will be having very soft openings for ~ 3000 guests per day. I have no more information about the times said opening will occur, but hopefully some nice, helpful cast members in the area will be available to answer questions.

Can any CMs confirm this? If this is affirmative I'll have to fill up my gas tank tonight :)

Here's a secret, sure-fire way to guarantee a ride on Mission:Space.... Wait until August 15.

I can niether confirm nor deny this rumor. General Cast Previews should be soon, but have not occurred yet.

I was followed by two creepy internet people with cameras when I went to ride last week. Not a good sign when soft openings have been announced already as being 2 months away.

Soft-soft-soft openings and cast-only previews are intended to help with training the cast, and if they end up with people camping out in front of the building or harrassing CMs, the surprise operations will almost definitely be cut short of canceled. Concern of overwhelming the newly-trained CMs is what led to by-appointment-only and no-guest Cast Previews for Rock 'n Rollercoaster and Millionaire. Go to Epcot, have fun, if you get to ride Space, Hooray! Think of it as icing, but don't plan a trip around it.

CM's did go on a soft opening ride this past week. The ride is being toned down. 50% of the riders puked from the intensity of the ride. Simulator style, 4 in a row in a self contained vehicle. 4 minute long ride. Watch for the new commercials to hit the air in early August for an Aug. 15 opening.

Epcot CMs had their previews last week, yes (check my related post also on this forum), but general cast previews for the other 45,000 people who work at WDW have not yet occurred. I don't know how much this attraction could possibly be toned down. I was a bit dizzy after my second time through, but I did not feel sick at all (I'm not one to get motion-sick, though).

Uhm.. were they trying to take pictures of your feet?

LOL

Just returernd from the world.
Friday I went on the Backstage Magic Tour.
Aug. 14 or 15 is the date for the soft opening. Our tour guide rode it and said it was great.
He said he was a little disorianted when the ride stoped but that it was not the same quizzy feeling he gets from Body Wars.
He said the ride is working great and at this time there are no indications that the ride opening will be delaid.
Also, saw the smokestacks for BTMRR at central shops. Look to see them installed soon after almost a year without them.
Pooh ride was looking good, they changed the doors on the ride cars to a pocket type and that was the main reason for the rehab. We saw that some of the new bodys are on the bases but when we walked by painting, one was being painted. The carbodys are new but look the same as the old ones.

We went to Epcot last Thursday and DW tried to talk a CM into letting me ride MS for my birthday. All we got was a polite sorry not ready yet.

We just got back home today and in our mail was our PAP renewal reminder.

Part of the sales pitch was that AP holders will get a preview of MS on Aug. 1-3 and of Mickey's PhilharMagic Sept. 20-21.

We went to the World Chapter meeting of the NFFC last night and spoke with several CMs who had ridden Mission Space. It seems that everyone had at least one person in their party that puked.

But those who kept everything down said it was AWESOME!

I'm a little intimidated after talking first-hand to that many people who had a "less than pleasant" reaction.

Oh, please! I don't believe this for one second. HALF of the people who ride are throwing up? Why would they even open a ride that intense? Why is the centrifuge ride a staple of traveling carnivals if it makes half of all riders throw up? Why have there been no reports of throwing up from anyone who has already been on the ride?

I hope nobody is scared away from the ride by ridiculous "facts" like this.

I'm having a hard time with 50% too... I could see 25% even, it is pretty intense, but I rode twice and none of the people I rode with got sick (even though two of them were very concerned that they would). Also, none of my friends who rode (8) got sick, and most of them rode multiple times. So that's 15 people that I personally spoke with and none of them got sick (I know it's a long way off from a Gallup poll, but hopefully it's a little more reassuring.)

I'm curious, what else is there other than the ride? Are there things for non-riders to do, look at?
Diane =0)

I asked about the ride and the P factor and I was told it was not that high. 50% sounds too high to me:confused:

I think 50% is way too high. Do you really believe they would even open it for test riding if half the people got sick? I don't. They want this to be a successful attraction and I think Safari Steve's reports of his and his peer CMs rides are more indicative of the true nature of the ride.
