Mission: SPACE So scared....

Ok now see I never grew up with any problems of spinning or motion rides, but what I think would get someone with those rides is if they feel them spinning. I gotta say that you really don't feel at all like you are spinning. It might sound wierd because it is twirling around pretty quickly to get those G forces, but I can't feel a thing and I have been on it 4 times (still think it is a mediocre ride). See when the ride starts, you are so focused on watching the screen that that takes your mind off part of the problem. Secondly you can't feel the spinning. That was probably Disney's motive because them it wouldn't be like you are lifting off into space would it. Third is the loud sounds and shaking as the ship blasts off does a good job of taking your mind off it too. After that there are little boosts and spinning throughout the ride, but not as strong as the first launch. The directions tell you to not look from side to side. Keep your head firmly against the head rest, don't close your eyes even if you start feeling naucus (how's my spelling lol). I don't know, I think the people who threw up on the ride could have done something wrong and the people who felt naucus know now that it is to much for them. Just go on the ride before lunch or dinner and concentrate on the ride rather than the spinning. I know that is easier said then done but it is good to follow that. Hope I could help.

What a country of wusses we have become.

Grown adults "scared" of an attraction from which I have seen hoardes of just tall enough kids emerge with giant grins on their faces.

Ok After reading all of the responses I think I'm DEFINATELY going to ride Mission:Space. I didn't have any problems at all with Star Tours, I actually rode it twice in a row. I know the warnings are going to freak me out but it just seems like something I can't miss! I'm so excited!

Thanks for the advice,
Ash

I always have a motion sickness problem. Can't do Body Wars, Star Tours is questionable. Get car sick, plane sick and train sick. I LOVED Mission SPACE, had a ball. I followed their directions about keeping my head back and concentrated on what was on the screen. The cool air does help. I did not take my eyes off the screen and did great. I was wobbly for about 2 minutes after the ride, a little weak in the knees, but I think that had more to do with the aftermath of apprehension because I was scared I was going to be sick. Oh - and we did this after a meal at California Grill and a couple glasses of wine - still did fine, and in fact had dessert on the way through World Showcase!

Hi, Ash.

I have not read through all of your replies yet. You asked for personal experiences so here is mine. I got sick to put it mildly. I am very prone to motion sickness. However, I am very glad I rode Mission Space. It is an awesome experience but I will not ride it again.

I rode at the very end of the night so my day would not be possibly ruined if I happened to get sick.
I was fine during lift off, the sling shot around the moon and then I started getting very queasy. I kept my eyes open, looked straight ahead and etc. I did not move. I have enough self-control
to not get sick in the ride. I was able to get outside and it took us awhile to walk out of the park because I did not feel well at all. I stayed sick for a couple of hours and did not feel normal until late the next day.

I would still have done this one and only ride that time but never again. :)

I rode this ride in December. I do not get dizzy or sick on rides. I love the tea cups - faster is better. The only ride I've ever had any issue with was Body Wars and the Hanna Barbara ride at Universal years and years ago - I had to shut my eyes and that happened only once. Typically I'm the one in the carnival ride where the floor drops down as you are glued to the wall laughing hysterically....

Mission Space was another issue. I was shocked at how it "did me in." The special effects and whole ride concept is incredible - I am so glad I did it but I started to get so nauseous at one point and thankfully they had this air blow on your face. I just kept breathing deeply. I had followed advice of not shutting my eyes and keeping my head and eyes forward but it took all I could to appear "fine" when I left the ride. It's embarrassing when everyone's all happy and laughing around you and you just want to lay your head down on the cold floor! ;) DH said "Wow you look terrible." It took a good 15-20 minutes for me to feel better. DH has serious vertigo and he offered me his meclizine. I was very indignant at that offer but I must have looked pretty sorry. Maybe I will try it again one day, I am still glad I went on the ride.
