Hi everyone,

I'm going to Disney in August and I want to try to go on Mission Space. I want to check it out because it looks amazing, but I don't want to ruin my day by getting sick on the ride. I went on Body Wars years ago and it made me feel ill. Using that as a reference on what I can handle, do you think I can do Mission Space.

Thank you for all your advice on this one.

:bounce: 160 days to go and I will be in the Magic

Mission: Space is very different than Body Wars. You don't get jerked around and up and down like Body Wars or Star Tours. It is very hard to describe since there is really nothing else like it.
We were fortunate enough to ride it 5 times last June while they were having their pre-opening run throughs. I definitely suggest that you don't eat before going on. Everyone is different, but the feeling during take off is really extraordinary and I would not go on right after eating. My DS and I really enjoyed the experience. The area outside Mission: Space has a lot of things to do and we spent quite a bit of time in there one day after the ride.
Mission: Space is not a roller coaster nor a Body Wars/Star Tours type of ride. It is truly an amazing experience. If you follow the CM instructions you should be fine..............Enjoy!!!!!

It a worth a try ride. My then five year old went on in in August, and she was fine... in fact she was saying during take off.. "I'm a magnet.. I'm a magnet!"

My then 8 year old loved it too...

I liked and hubby liked it as well.

We werent scared at all.

Honestly, I hate Body Wars but I love Mission Space. Its not really the jerkiness but the temperature inside the car on Body Wars that gets to me. I can't handle that heat and lack of air. Star Tours is the same type of ride and I am perfectly fine on that since the car is a normal temp. Mission Space has very nice air jets like they have on planes that blow cool air at your face. This definitely helps with the ride.

I'm very worried about trying Mission Space, too! My MIL went on it last summer & got very ill. She has me convinced that I shouldn't go on it. I get VERY Ill on rides like Star Tours, but I don't get ill on any roller coasters.

Since hubby really wants to go on it - I am thinking of taking some dramamine type medicine & waiting until the end of the day to go on it. This way I hopefully won't ruin an entire day at WDW feeling ill. Still not sure what we'll do. :)

I think you should experience it. The motion of this ride is acutally a spinning motion,, BUT!! It is the opitical illusion that makes the ride so intense. You are focused on a screen which moves you through space, the feeling you get when you are on the ride is actually moving through space,, NOT spinning.

I cannot personally ride anything that sways or spins me around, but I did not understand that thsi actually was a spin ride. I ever felt the effects of spinning. they do suggest that you pay attention to the screen and not the area around you .. It is to keep the illusion true.

It is one of my favorite rides ever!!

DH and DS took dramamine about an hour before going on MS. DH didn't have a problem and he can't take body wars, but doesn't mind Star tours. DS closed his eyes and was a little disoriented when he got off, but it only lasted a minute or two (he says he couldn't help it, and I know what he meant, I felt like I just wanted to squeeze my eyes shut and I had to concentrate to keep them open and to keep from holding my breath). I felt fine the first time I went on and I was feeling a little queasy before I went on (I knew that was from traveling the day before and not getting much sleep). The second time I went on my head was feeling a little stuffy and when I got off I was slightly dizzy, but that only lasted less than a minute.

First off let me say that this ride is phenomenal. I am truly amazed at its technology and think everyone should try it at least once.

Will I ride it again - Probably not.

Star Tours and body Wars makes me a little "off kilter" for a few moments after exiting the ride and doesn't bother my husband or kids in the least. But after riding Mission Space I was off kilter and had to sit down in the shade for at least a half hour and still didn't feel back to normal for a few hours but my husband was "off" til the next day and typically nothing bothers him.

It didn't bother the kids at all and they kept going back on.

If you're worried about getting "off kilter" maybe try it during the end of the day when you'll have the rest of the evening to re-group.

I too get motion sick very easy, and was very nervous about MS. However, after reading all the threads on this topic, I followed the instructions and was perfectly fine! I rode more than once! Just keep your head forward and don't close your eyes and you should be fine. People I was with thought sitting in the middle instead of on the outside helped too. Enjoy!

We rode Mission Space last August for the first time; my 13 year old daughter and husband really liked it and had no problems. I, on the other hand, hated it. It was ironic since I had to really work hard to convince my daughter that it wasn't scary and it would be fun:confused: I started feeling queasy while still on the ride but followed the directions exactly like they told us to. Look straight ahead and keep your eyes open. I managed to get through it an stumbled my way out of there and through the gift shop to the outdoors. I dropped on the ground next to a garbage can in the shade. I stayed there for a while along with a couple other people who were green at the gills. I finally got up and we headed over to Honey I Shrunk the Audience where I could sit down and it was cool. I didn't eat anything for the rest of the day and this was in the morning! I don't usually have a motion sickness problem however I don't do tea-cups or tilt-a-whirls either. I've heard that the ride is not as intense now but who knows. We're going back in June and everyone wants to ride it again - except me. I'd rather do Test Track a few extra times. Good luck with your decision.

It didn't bother me at all... I just kept my head straight and didn't close my eyes, and it was a blast.

Even though you're spinning, you don't realize you are. Thats just what they have to do in order to get the right effect.

I would try it once. Ijust hate for anyone to miss out on it in fear they might get sick... but on the other hand, if you get REALLY sick than I understand you are hesistant.

I even got ill feeling on Body Wars, I hated that ride. Dont like Star Wars much either. This is much more tame on your body then those, I think. =)

Thanks for all the great advice. I will try it once (at the end of the day). If I don't try it -- I'll kick myself when I get home.

:bounce: Going in August.
