Hello all,

I want to ride Mission Space BUT I don't want to take the chance of getting sick and ruining the rest of my day. So I'm not.

When you enter the Mission Space building do you have to go all throught the line then use the chicken exit or do you have the option to go to the after ride area. I heard somewhere that there was a Mission Control area or something like that. At what point exactly is the chicken exit on this attraction? I know there is a preflight video with Gary Sinese (sp?). Is it before or after this?

I would like to experience the show and all but just not ride the simulator.

thanks,

From what I remember the preflight video is played while you stand on your number like Star Tours or Soarin' Over California. Then I think when you get there is one that explains what each person's role will be. Quite a fun experience. I am not sure what kind of escape routes there are for people who decide that dont want to ride.

My DS decided at the very end he didn't want to ride. We still had to go into one of the rooms everyone else did. Everyone else had a circle to stand on, we stood in the middle. We got to watch Gary talk about the mission. When the others were ready to go on in they first had us leave. We went and had fun playing a game while we waited.
My DS didn't chicken out til the very end though so I didn't pay attention to any other ways out before that besides just backtracking through the line.

If you know going in that you don't want to ride the ride, just go through the exit store (located to the left of the building as you face mission space). You can walk through the store and into the Mission Space Base area. PLAY MISSION SPACE RACE! It's so much fun. You can send a postcard from space too... I like the abducted by aliens one. :)

That is what I will do. Now the Mission Space Base area, can you enter that area through a side door or do you enter through the main entrance. Is there two entrances?

Walk into the store thru the auto-open doors, go to the right. There will be some benches on the right and a door on the left. Thru that door is Mission Space Base. Everyone who rides the ride empties into this area. There's a play area for little kids, a postcard station, an arcade-type station, and Mission Space Race. Mission Space Race is an interactive video game that you play with 30 of your closest friends. ;) 8 people are astronauts and 20-ish other people can be Mission Controllers. The games run continuously all day.

My sister gets really sick on spinny rides. After we got off we just sat down for a little bit, then about 10 - 15 minutes later went on Test Track.

Just on a side note...

I too was affraid of getting sick (I get sick on Tea Cups, no way am I NOT up-chucking in an oversized centrafuge!) but I really wanted to ride. So I took a full dose of Dhramamine that morning. I didn't get sick, and had a blast! It did make me drozy, I napped on Universe of Engery (sorry Ellen!) but otherwise I was fine.

I hated mission space. not the ride really, just the way it made me feel. It was way cool but I think that not having vision in one eye really messed me up. It took hours to feel better. Not nausious, just dizzy and weak. I guess I wouldn't make a good astronaut. My daughter went through the entire pre show and then took the chicken exit in the boarding room with her daddy.

I hated Mission:Barf as well. Just go through the exit and you can do/see everything.

Has anybody seen people throw up after or during the ride? I get queasy with spinng rides and I wanted to try this one. Does it make you feel like your are floating and does it spin?

From what I remember, there are several chicken exits before you get to the actual ride. Bear22, it is a centrifuge, so the ride spins to give you the feeling of weightlessness, but you do not feel as though you are spinning at all. It is important though to follow the directions and not to close your eyes, which was hard for me, and to keep looking straight ahead, do not turn your head.

It does spin - in order to create the G-forces - but I never felt like I was spinning. There is also a point where you feel like you're floating/weightless, but then you go back to feeling like you're moving forward (flying) again. I've never seen anyone get sick on it and the only problems I've ever had were that my eyes watered a lot. They tell you to keep your eyes open watching the screen (so you won't get dizzy or sick), and there is a little vent blowing cool air on your face. I think the air just irritated my contacts or something - making my eyes water.

Personally, I loved the ride and would ride it again (and again) on our next trip if I could.... But it's probably not a good ride for a pregnant woman!

I thought it was a great ride, but I did feel pretty quesy for a while afterwards. Even on the ride, I could somewhat tell we were spinning, and near the end I started to worry. The ride ended before anything happened though.

We went on Body Wars pretty soon after riding this, and I think my system hadn't fully recovered. Simulators don't normally bother me, but I thought I was going to lose it again on Body Wars.

Maybe I'm just getting old...

I'll try to describe what it looks and feels like and leave out the why and how it does so:
(It's been over a year for me so hopefully I won't leave anything out.
I hope someone will correct me if I do.)

It looks/feels like you are in one of those old Saturn rockets. (as compared to the airplane-like cockpit of the space shuttle)
You sit in a secure seat with very little room in front of you.
And a small "window" is a few feet in front of you.
Through it you see birds flying, clouds and a blue sky.

The rocket "takes off" and the picture screen "window" changes to give the illusion of moving upward.
The ride is varying degrees of force that pushes you back into your seat.
The faster you go the more force you feel.

The "ride" is unlike anything else you've probably been on.
There's no right or left or up or down.
You don't get jerked around.
I don't remember feeling "weightless" but it does feel weird.

It's all a pressure that forces you back into your seat to different degrees depending on what the storyline is.
I think it gave me a headache for a few minutes after but that's just me.
I liked it but probably won't do it again unless it's a walkon.

You have many, many opportunities to chicken out of this ride. I think that you could go all the way into the centrifuge room, walk into a capsule, walk out the other side, get a CM and say "I don't know what I was thinking" and they will be happy to lead you to the exit to Mission Control training.

Short of pulling the harness down over you in the seat, I don't think there is a point of no return. If you fuss enough, I bet you can get out after you pull the harness down, too.

If you know that you absolutely do not want to ride the ride, forget the line and go into the Mission: Space gift shop, go toward the rear right corner and follow the hallway to Mission Control training. You DO NOT have to stand in the line to get to Mission Control training. We've never stopped there but it looks pretty cool.

As I recall, you can chicken out right up until you board the capsule. Just tell one of the CMs that you have changed your mind and you will be escorted to an exit to the store. There were at least two "chicken" points as I recall.

Actually, once you're in the capsule, a CM sticks his/her head in and asks if you're ready. I think at that point you can still get out if you need to. Once the doors are closed... it's just you and the air sickness bags. ;)

I've ridden Mission Space dozens of times. No one's ever gotten sick in my capsule. I've seen a few people look queasy and stand by the trashcan for a few minutes though. Generally, as long as people follow directions they seem to be fine.

It doesn't feel like you're spinning. But now that you know that you are spinning you can feel it. But if by chance you do go on it, don't close your eyes!

I went on MS twice when I was in Epcot. I don't get sick from rides, but the first time it was fine, but the second time since then I already knew what had happened and someone told me you were spinning I could feel it.

Bonine is my weapon of choice. Took some, didn't get sleepy, and rode it twice in a row with very little problems. Better living though chemicals!
