So, the only time I rode Mission Space was on the more intense side with my husband prior to us having kids. Now, I am trying to figure out how much milder the "green" side is and what age kids can manage it? I don't want to traumatize my kids if it is too much, but don't want to skip it if it might be manageable. Anyone care to share thoughts on this ride with me, please, with respect to kids ages/tolerance levels/etc.? Thank you.

I have been on both the orange and the green ride. The orange is intense. The green gives you the ride but not the centrifuge feel.
You should have no problems. I was just on it Thursday last week and had fun.

My son did green for the first time when he was about 8 and loved it. I think as long as they don't have issues with motion sickness they should be fine. I have pretty bad motion sickness and was able to do green (just had to close my eyes).

My 5 year old did the orange side and LOVED it. You have to know your kid and know what they are up for. He wanted to try everything, so we let him go on whatever he was tall enough for and he learned quickly what he liked and what he didn't.

My 3yo loved the green side. He probably would have loved the Orange side but we didn't want to accompany him. :)

the orange side spins.
the green side doesn't.
so the green side has no intensity at all.
only you know what your kids can "handle".
personally i don't even bother to go on the green side cuz its boring.
the point of the ride is to feel the G forces.

Thanks, I appreciate the information. They've done Soarin and loved it, and my older one has done BTMRR. It's just been so long that I have a hard time remembering the specifics and you know how it's different perception before you have kids vs. what you try to look for/remember when you do to make a judgment. I'm not asking anyone to decide for me, just to share their own experience with their kids ages going on it and how they found the ride. Is the ride vehicle exactly the same in terms of very limited space once you are strapped in between you and the dash? That is something I recall from my ride time but I don't remember them having 2 different sides back then (though I could be wrong) so really just trying to be informed. Thanks.

Yes, the ride vehicle is exactly the same. On the green side, it becomes a simulator ride that has some movement, but not the g-force of the orange side. If they can do Star Tours, they can do this. My boys were 6 and 9 the last time they rode it and both of them were fine. They both like TT, BTMRR, and Soarin' but they aren't ready for ToT. They'll do EE and RnR, but neither are their favorite.

Thanks sharonabe, that comparison really helps as they both loved star tours a couple years ago so they should be fine, then, on this I think!

Star Tours is a good comparison. But from the OP, do keep in mind the vehicles are the same and yes, there is little space between you and the dash.

Orange side. 11 year old boy and 8 year old boy both loved it but didn't want to do it again. It made the 11 year old a little queasy. The 5 year old girl didn't like it, but was not traumatized by it.
Interestingly enough, both boys hated soarin. Like, we had to sit afterwards to let them recoop. That was not the case with mission: space.
Fwiw, all three do coasters pretty well. The older two love them and ride absolutely everything they can at any theme park. The 5 year old has done everything she was tall enough for but doesn't necessarily love them like the boys do.

My four-year-old rode it on the green side and hated it. He didn't mind the (mild) spinning, but he hated the enclosed space (i.e. claustrophobia). Also, he was too short to reach the buttons that he was supposed to push, which pissed him off. We are not big Mission:Space fans.

I'm glad that if they can motion-wise handle Star Tours, it is a good comparison. I guess the enclosed space is definitely a consideration, but probably hard to tell how they'd react until you are on it.

Interesting that they handled this ok and hated soarin. Glad it wasn't too much for your 5 year old even though she didn't like it.

Thanks to everyone who's shared a response here.

My 9 year old liked the orange, but my 11 year old would only do green (he is more sensitive to motion sickness). I did both sides, and the green is pretty mild. The orange side has more g-force, and I hate the feeling of something heavy being on my chest because of that, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal. It is not my favorite ride (and we LOVE Star Tours...I personally disagree with that particular comparison, but everyone feels things differently!) but my youngest likes it, so we ride it!

If they love Star Tours, they will probably love the Mission Space green side. It has a very similar feel. My DD, 8, is not that huge on thrill rides - she hates BTMRR-but she loves both Star Tours and the green side of Mission Space. I think she was 6 when she rode it the first time, but had I ridden it before then (I was always scared of getting sick on it), and known what it was like, I would have had no problem putting her on it at 4 or 5, or really anytime she was tall enough and wanted to do it. I feel silly that I avoided it as long as I did because I enjoy it too.

Thanks again everyone.

xlsm, out of curiosity, why do you disagree with the comparison to Star Tours? Would you mind elaborating a bit?
