Excluding the non-turning centrifuge for people who get motion sickness, have the rest of the Mission Space ride machines been slowed down? I've heard rumors that all the operating centrifuges no longer generate the forces they did when the ride was first opened.

I'm hoping that this isn't the case. DW and I rode MS when it first opened and loved that feeling of getting mashed into your seat and fighting "gravity" to flip the required switches. It was awesome. It was so real! I hope that experience is still available. :bitelip:

Did the MS ride really generate 5 G's or was that RnRC? Or is that number way too high for either attraction?

I dont know if the spinning fuges are any less powerful than when it was opened.

However, they have changed things evidently. Evidently now they have one centrifuge that does NOT spin AT ALL and instead you just experience the ride without G-force.

You can choose which one to ride when you enter.

The spinning centrifuges have never been toned down since opening.

:thumbsup2 Fear Not, the orginal Mission Space is the same! They have now added a new line that allows guest to experience Mission Space without the G-Forces. I believe that Disney is trying to make it appealing to all types of people. Many people completely avoided going to the Mission Space Pavillion beacuse they had heard it was so intense. This option just gives more people the chance to experience the ride. We just went in June and there was a special insert in the Epcot map explaining the two options now available on Mission Space.

Thanks for the reassurance honey11dog and DizParks! I've been concerned that the ride was emasculated following the number of people who do technicolor yawns or shout "BUICK" into trash cans after the ride. I know its crazy but I just love that ride. It and RnRC are my ideas of heaven! MS is so real... down to the switch guards on the instrument panels. What a great simulation!

I really shouldn't ride it as I've had 5 heart attacks and 30 heart surgeries since 1998. But I do a shot of nitroglycerin before the ride (a little premedication to open up them arteries) then do another one or two after the ride to get rid of my chest pain. Yes, I know what the sign said. The doc said that I was going to die three years ago. Well, I'm still here by God's Grace and I believe He wants me to have fun. So as the bull dog said in Lady & the Tramp, "its a brief life but a merry one!" If I kick it on the ride my DW won't be filing any lawsuits. Maybe I'll even get to haunt the attraction. That would be fun.... Nah, I'm gonna live to be 150 years old. :bounce:

DS and I rode the spinning version week of 6/20 several times and we both felt that the ride is no longer the same as when originally opened. We were on the original when you could hardly lift your arms or move your head due to the centrifuge, now its hardly an effort. We also take a ride on the non-spin version and could not tell the difference in the ride. We prefer the original operation when the ride first opened.

I rode the tamer version on 4th of July. I think it is still exciting. They call it less intense. My daughter kept remarking she thought they toned it down. You still get a great ride.

Darian~ the ride was slowed down PRIOR TO opening. They had let CM's ride it and almost all of them were getting sick and/or not enjoying it because it was so intense. They toned it down, then opened the ride.

As far as I know, the ride with the centrifuges still operating is the same as it was when it opened. :)

Oh naked people, whats a guy to do? I'm getting conflicting reports on what's happened to the Mission Space ride. ARE there any cast members who actually KNOW the skinny on what happened to MS? For the love of God tell me the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if only they would do that with SM! :rotfl:

I rode that one time at DL and I was queasy for 3 days....

Now at least I can experience Mission Space, and not be sick for days

LOL if you believe OP

Hey Hugpug not sure I get your drift. By OP you mean original poster right? That would be me. There have been people on this thread who have said, yes, MS has been slowed down. Others have said no, its just like it was when it opened.... excluding the one centrifuge that no longer spins at all. Which I mentioned in my original post. Which part of this don't you believe? Because I'd really like to know what I'm accused of lying about.

Ride the Full Version and simply keep your eyes on the monitor in front of you.
I was scared to kid it, but did it, and rode it a second time.
It was not nearly as bad as the stories you hear if you keep focused on the screen.

Yes, you can ignore all the yelling at you from Mission Control to perform tasks if that helps you stay focused. It is stressfull in the sense you are always getting yelled at and a microsecond from doom.
You will be glad you rode it if you KEEP FOCUSED on the SCREEN in FRONT of you.

I rode the less intense version, kept my eyes on the screen the whole time and still almost lost my lunch.

Another 10 seconds, I'd have hurled.

It has never changed. WHat you experienced is what professional testers call "practice effects," which in plain English means that the more you experience something, the more accustommed to it you become. It makes sense that if you've ridden it more than twice that it seems easier now. That's one of the reasons why real astronauts and pilots get better with more hours behind the stick -- they not only increase their knowledge base, but their bodies and minds get more acclimated to the conditions and are able to accomplish more under those conditions.

Wow. Well now I just can't accept your account of the "orange" version. If you couldn't tell the difference between orange and green, then your bodies aren't very sensitive to the conditions in general. There's a massive difference, in reality as well as in the perception of most people.
