Mission Space: Green

Simulator. Shakes a bit, tilts a little bit. You watch the screen and press buttons if you choose to (the buttons do nothing).

On the Orange side it spins so that you really feel like you are taking off into space and feeling the G forces. If you look straight ahead it should just feel like pressure; if you turn your head or eyes at all, though, you then feel the spin. (and some feel the spin no matter what)

But there's no spinning on Green. And that's the only difference between the sides; storyline is the same on both.

Bumbershoot gave a good description. The green side is much tamer as far as motion or nausea production than ,say, Star Wars. BUT!!! If you are claustrophobic, this is not a ride for you. The capsule is small and enclosed and once the ride starts up, your monitor is about a foot in front of your face. I love this ride and do it 2 or 3 tikes per visit. But I have a friend that just can't do it at all.

That was my question... I tend to panic in closed spaces... I think I'll give my FP to my daughter and husband...

Yeah for-get-it! My claustrophobic DS 14 refused it in the knick of time. Thank goodness! He would've freaked!

Oh crud, lol. That is definitely not a good one for me.
But your answer prompts a different question... the Star Tours ride can make you sick? What is THAT ride like? lol

I think that the ride is as dull as mud. The spinning on the orange side adds a little interest but unfortunately it made me feel pretty bad for a while.

Star Tours is a typical rocking simulator. This one doesn't bother me at all, in fact I love it. :)

Star Tours makes me super motion sick. It's a bigger simulator with a larger screen.

I don't really notice myself being claustrophobic, but really didn't enjoy mission space. It was too tight and with the screen in your face I did feel somewhat claustrophobic. I'm also 300 pounds so that could also have added to the tight feeling.

I have never felt that the screen is that close. I have to reach my arm out to press buttons, and my arm is longer than a foot. :) But the only time I'm claustrophobic is when there's water involved (the Nemo submarine ride at DL gets to me even though I know that I don't need to worry about water) or the idea of a cave, etc. So maybe that's why I don't feel it's that close.

Are you in a capsule by yourself? I rode it years ago when it first opened, but I can't remember how the seating was. I'm considering taking DD on the Green side this year (she loves anything to do with space) but if she'll be in a capsule alone I probably won't. She'll be 6, and I'd hate for her to be alone if she gets scared.

It is a team of four to each ship.

I was going to mention nemo as well... I had a huge panic attack. On the swinging Ferris wheel at California adventures!

Great idea. We actually were "stuck" in there for about 5-10 minutes while something was being done to a different vehicle, and my wife had a panic attack. It wasn't fun for anyone once that happened.

As for the motion, Green Team is MUCH more tame than Orange Team, but I pretty much refuse to ride Green now that I've been on Orange. Green sort of avoids the entire point of the ride, IMO.

If you get motion sick from simulators - even though Green is milder - you can still get sick. This was the most miserable experience I have ever had at Disney. I was sick partly through "take-off" and the rest of what felt like forever I just had to focus on not throwing up while on the ride.

Ya . unless I got on the wrong side ... when I went on Mission Space Green .. I still got ill.

I felt like it spun .. and my wife and I were just wrecked physically for an hour or two after that.

Me too - did the "green" version, yet still came out of that thing nauseous...

I did the red version once and the green version once and I'm done. Although you don't get dizzy on the green version you are still cramped in that spaceship and I just didn't like it. And I don't even have claustrophobia. If someone does, don't do it.

I'm a thrill ride junkie and I ride EVERYTHING. All coasters & simulators. Mission Space is the only ride i REFUSE to ride ever again. Did Orange side at about 11am one day and had to cancel the rest of the day, went back to the hotel and just laid there trying to put my body back together and stop throwing up. Took another chance and rode Green side on the next trip & still got sick. Not as bad, but enough that I had to sit down for an hour or so afterwards to recuperate.
