I would like to try mission space again but do not want to get distracted with pressing the buttons as it makes me look away from the screen which you are not meant to do.

Can I ride without pressing the buttons without spoiling anything for anyone else? I am sure I would enjoy it better if I did not have to think about anything else!!!

Many thanks

Susan

Yes, you can. You'll just hear a voice that says "computer override" or something, and your task will be "done" for you. ;)

But it's more fun if you do!

The first time we rode it, we were 4 adults in the capsule (all relatives).
We got so caught up in it we were yelling to each other to "push the button!!!!" when each of our respective jobs were called upon. Even though we KNEW it didn't make any difference. We still laugh about it today!

The first time I rode MS, I rode with three strangers who were members of the same family and had ridden MS 200+ times (I was doing child swap with my DH). They were *really* into it, which was very cute, as it was two little elderly people and their daughter. They instructed me about pressing the buttons, but I forgot to do it the first time and the computer just overrides you and does your job for you. :)

I'm with you, mark&sue - I didn't want to have to take my eyes off the screen to push the buttons. So I was careful to mentally locate them before the ride started. Then, when they flashed at the crucial moment, I could pick them up in my peripheral vision and push them without having to look away. But, as others have said, if you don't push them, it doesn't affect the ride.

I press the buttons when told to and also start flipping switches and pushing any button I can reach as soon as the console comes within reach. Some of them make the coolest sounds. One group of MS newbes I got assigned to thought I was going to blow the darn thing up. Man they were upset.

My wife was panicking when we were on MS this past February. She got so caught up in the ride that she actually thought we would crash into Mars if she didn't hit her button at the right time! I still make fun of her for that.

Man.... My first time on Mission Space, me and my friends took our roles so seriously. It was hilarious. We saluted each other before getting in the pod, and we were at "parade rest". Until our light flashed over our heads.

Upon being on the ride... I thought we would crash if we didnt do our jobs, and we didnt have an Engineer. So I took on two jobs, and piloted two sticks. My friends were all yelling at me because I got the down and up mixed up. I was so upset because I thought I ruined our mission.

I also had NO IDEA we were spinning around, and thats what creates the simulation. My friends still make fun of me about it.

I am gullible. I really thought it was all up to me, and somehow we were rocketing out of the Space pavilion. (lol ok not really.... but pretty close..)

:rotfl:

LOL LOL LOL

We rode for the first time last week, and I was so nervous and worried about needing the barf bags, I didn't do anything but sit tight and look straight ahead. DH kept yelling to me "that's you, push the buttons!" and finally reached over the did it for me! LOL

The last time we rode, DH and I were the only two in our "pod" thing, (a father and son left at the last minute - the poor kid was freaked) and I told him he'd have to do the jobs of 3 people!

Really love that ride. :sunny:

I rode MS in March with my DD (8) and DS (then 4) and we all got into it and loved it. Poor DS was getting frustrated because he couldn't quite reach his buttons and joystick. Playing along really is part of the magic... but then again I was just the oldest kid (late 30's) in the capsule!
