Mission Space Changed my LIFE!

If anyone has been to Cedar Point over the last two summers, how does Mission Space compare to say, Top Thrill Dragster or the Millenium? I won't ride either so if it's anything like them, I know I should steer clear of Mission Space! I refuse to embarrass myself by "hurling", as someone put it, into a barf-bag!

It's so great to hear positive reviews for this ride; I didn't notice too many before our 2003 trip. I liked it enough, but probably wouldn't go on more than once.

I agree, it is great to hear some positive stuff. I think it is a great ride. I truly believe that 90% of the problems that people say they had is the mind playing tricks on them.

You do not feel any sensation of spinning. Just the feeling of acceleration and deceleration. The control panels are fun to look at and play with and the interactive portions are done so perfectly that you actually think that you have had a part in the operation of a real space ship. It is an awesome experience even for old relics like myself.

Yeah, I think the negative hype has scared a lot of people. They indeed had to "tone it down" a bit at the beginning. For us it is a must do. I agree too, about the controls and how it makes it seem interactive. Fun, fun, fun! :cool1:

I was on both at Cedar Point last year and Mission Space is a walk in the park compared to Top Thrill Dragster or the Millenium. Now those are some serious rollercoasters. MS is more of a simulator, but the rides visual effects are fantastic. If the Cedar Point rides are a 10, than Mission Space is about a 4 as far as thrills. It really isn't bad.

does anyone know how much of a help of taking dramamine or some such would be? I wondering if i just had something to take the edge of a little bit if that would be enough from keeping me from being nauseous all day

I would try the patch instead. You may not want the Dramamine pill in your system after you are off the ride, you can remove the patch and the effects will start to fade in a half hour or so. It will still be in your blood-stream, but nothing like that pill will be.

Hate to be a spoiler...but I rode it and will never ride again. I have no problems on other wild rides, but this one threw me for a loop. I didn't have to use the barf bag, but it was very close. It took me a couple of hours to feel right again! I would not recommend it to anyone who has motion sickness at all. Having said that, my husband loves it. So, my advice is take the warnings seriously.

That is exactly what my friend told me. She said both she and her 15-year-old daughter were both sick and almost had to use the bags.

Add me to the spoiler list. On Mission Space last week. I noted all the signs and shrugged it off thinking it can't be that bad. Well, as soon as I was in the launch mode, I knew I was toast!! I had all I could do but not heave! I walked off the ride afterwards and a CM made me sit down, brought me cold cloths. I ended up being physically sick shortly thereafter. Never again will I go on it. On the otherhand, my husband and daughter were just fine and loved the ride. The next day we were in line for the Dinasour Ride at AK, and a family of 4 were talking to us. All 4 of them were vomiting once they got off of Mission Space. IMO, if you experience motion sickness on rides, you should take the signs seriously.

I think everyone needs to put things in perspective.

Everyone reacts to rides differently. Just because you get sick on rides, doesn't mean that everyone else will, and vice versa.

And keep in mind that everyone who has a bad experience with anything, not just thrill rides, can't wait to tell everyone else how much it sucks. Most people who are satisfied or liked it, are less likely to say anything about it. Hence, those positive reports move off the front page of a board like this a lot faster than threads saying how bad everything was.

So assess yourself. Don't let other person's experiences make up your mind for you. I personally thought M:S was a great experience. I was a little lightheaded at the end and felt a little off kilter for about 15 minutes after, but nothing that would deter me from riding again. Then again, someone in the same pod with us swore they would never ever do it again.

I've been told the written warnings mention migraine sufferers. Can anyone comment as to why those prone to migraines might have trouble on MS?

I went on MS for the first time in Sept. 2004. My husband and 5 y/o DS loved it. I thought it was great but I did get a bit sick. I was not able to walk in line and felt like I was going to throw up for about an hour. What I did not know is that I was a week pregnent at the time! Not a good ride if you are with child! :D

Hmm... that warning about not closing your eyes scares me. Sometimes on rollercoasters if i get freaked out i just close my eyes a little and feel better (less dizzy). I guess you just have to stare right ahead even if you feel sick. I hope I do ok on this ride- i never threw up on over coasters so i think ill do ok.

I took my grandson on the ride last July. He loved it, I got sick. Would I do it again. For my grandchildren anything. :flower1:

I avoid spinning rides because they make me feel queasy, however, I did not want to miss out on mission space. We saved it for the last ride of the day. I followed the directions and did not turn my head during the ride. I felt a little queasy afterwards, so we went back to the hotel and I slept for an hour and then I felt fine. I don't think I will ride it again, but I'm glad that I got to experience it. It is a really cool ride!
