WOW! This ride is the best ride in the universe! When I heard they were building a space ride at Epcot, I was bumed, I really didn't like space stuff all the much! Untill NOW! I was scared to ride it for the first time :guilty: , but finally got up the nerve, I'm so glad I did, It ROCKS! I rode it 10 times during that week! I now like space, I even bought a telescope for my self at Walmart for X-mas! I can't wait to ride it again in April! I take time to look up at the stars and moon nightly now, I have all of you to thank, because if it wasn't for you people I would have never even rode it once!

THANKS!!!

It's my favourite, too. I've often wondered if alot of the negative reactions are caused by all the warning signs. I was a little tense going on the first time because of all the hype, and I've never met a ride my stomach didn't like.

:cheer2:

YEAH! I am so glad you liked it! I can't wait to go on it now!! Tick tock tick tock-my countdown is not going fast enough!!

Yeah, Mission Space is awesome. Ride designers are definitely scratching my themed/thrill itch :cool1: . Rode it and the new Mummy ride at USF in November. Can't wait for Soarin and Expedition:Everest!! pirate:

i really want to do this ride but im worried because of all the negative hype that im going to get sick. I've just noticed that as im getting older i dont do so well on certain types of rides anymore....things that spin like the old fair style round up or zipper rides...etc or the swinging ship...cant do it...so im wondering if this ride is like those....
now rollercoasters are a whole different thing :D

It is great. The themeing is out of this world. The fact that an ADD person like me can push buttons other than the 2 that you have to really helps with the magic. I assume everyone knows that not only are the 2 buttons to complete you part of the mission pushable but all most all the other switches and buttons can be played with too. And they also light up and make sounds when they are pushed. NOW THAT IS CALLED FUN.. Oh and the ride is nothing like I have ever experienced.

I really like the idea of this ride but I felt sick after, went away by the time I got to the exit.

The good news is that the actual simulator ride is very short. Whole thing is over with in about 1 to 1.5 minutes (just guessing here). Listen to the verbal instructions carefully after you board the rocket. You are instructed not to close your eyes and to look straight ahead while it is moving. Very important to resist the temptation to look around or move your head. You can even see the buttons light up with your peripheral vision. (You don't even really have to hit them on command anyway). If all that fails....use the airsick bag hanging in front of you. You won't be the first or the last to do that!!

It's worth trying once anyway......go for it!!!! pirate:

I'll be at Epcot this Monday and know my 8 y/o GD will want to ride this ride. I get dizzy very easily and usually do not like thrill rides. I'm also afraid of heights. I've read all the tips for riding it and have ginger pills, ginger snaps, alcohol pads, and a prescription for Antivert (Meclizine). I also know about keeping your head straight ahead and eyes open, but I'm still nervous. I don't want to be sick all day, but there is no way my GD will ride it by herself and I don't want her to miss it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Can someone describe the sensations you feel throughout the ride (beginning to end)?

I'll try to explain as best I can. If someone else sees where something can be clarified, please chip in.

The first thing you feel is the rumble as the power builds towards blastoff, then intense gravity - if you've been in a centrifuge before, like that, if you haven't, but you've flown a plane, kind of like the acceleration you feel on takeoff, but magnified by a factor of 10(?). Or, a more extreme version of the launch of Rock'n'Roller Coaster.
Then, a sort of weightless feeling (like at the peak of a roller coaster or TOT).
Then bumpiness like in Star Tours.

Then you're done.

Spoiler alert!!

The first sensation is you are tilted back and looking up at the launch pad tower. (I know you are actually tilted because I felt the keys/change moving in my pocket).

The liftoff is pretty intense...you can feel the g-force pressure on your face, etc. (probably 2-2.5gs) and you are out of the earth's orbit quickly.

You then go into what they call zero gravity but it doesn't feel like it to me (still moving through space, only slower...like you're coasting).

The slingshot around the moon picks up the speed a little.....we're having fun now.

Then the landing on Mars which is more of the same. Then there's a sudden stop at the end.

Like I said though....it's over very quickly.

My DD22 gets motion sickness in the back seat of our car. She rode it 2-3 time with no after effects. She can't wait to go back and ride it again.
Go for it!

does anyone know how much of a help of taking dramamine or some such would be? I wondering if i just had something to take the edge of a little bit if that would be enough from keeping me from being nauseous all day

Wow! That's quite a review! :D I REALLY want to ride it, but I do get motion sickness easily. BUT, if it's a short ride, I think I'd be fine. Dh will ride it first (he doesn't get sick) and then he can help me decide if I should go for it.

When the ride first opened, they warned about motion sickness and not looking to the side or closing your eyes. Of course, I had to break all the rules and try everything they told me not to, just 'cus. Anyway, I felt a bit dizzy, but never sick. My Dad felt a bit nauseous but never hurled. I wondered what would happen if, in a centrifuge, you actually threw up, what would happen, and that it might be a touch messy. Well, 6 months later on our next visit, Disney had installed Barf Bags on the dashboards. So see, if you are easily gagged, no worries, Disney's got you covered. Ride away!!!

We experienced Mission Space for the first time in December and really liked this ride!! It's definitely a one-of-a-kind experience! While waiting in line, DD and I almost wanted to get out because of all the warnings about getting sick. (The only time I felt at all sick was before actually riding because I was so nervous from all the warnings!)

But DS-7 insisted that we stay in line and ride, so we did. We knew to keep looking ahead and to not close our eyes and we did just fine. The kids were laughing the whole time. I generally don't like spinning-type rides (teacups, etc) but I never actually felt like I was spinning on Mission Space.

Definitely give it a try!

AWESOME!!!! :cool1: So glad you liked it. It is one of my favorites, as well!

You experience 3 G's on this ride at it's peak. When they first built it they tested it at 7 G's on CM's, toned it down to 5 G's, then toned it down to the 3 G's that it has been at since it opened to the public (all this info from an Epcot security guard who has worked there for 12 years while I was waiting first in line to enter the park one morning).
