MISSING: sad UPDATE: body found, ex-boyfriend charged with murder

There's going to be a press conference at 5pm. That's probably not a good sign :(

It has been confirmed that it was her body. They have arrested a 21 year old and charged him with 2nd degree murder.

It's her ex-boyfriend (possibly ex-fiance).... so incredibly sad. CNN was streaming the live press conference. They think she was already dead when she was taken from her house.

This has been all over the news feeds in area. I live in a suburb of Buffalo.

I certainly hope she is found safe. Thoughts & prayers for her and her family.

Edited: I should have read everything before I posted. I did not see the update & have not had the news on yet this evening.

body is confirmed to be JLW; at med examiner now
treated as homicide
found behind an abandoned utility shed
SP suspect early on; last to see her alive-that morning; not believed to be alive when she left that home
dated off and on for about 18 months; parents were well aware of relationship; did what they could to protect their daughter; SP removed JL from her home, and dumped like trash

yes, she was found concealed by brush in a heavily wooded area beyond the park shed. Word is they have a great deal of evidence. I hope this is an easy case to prosecute and they put him away for a long time. He has been charged with 2nd degree murder.

I feel so bad for her family.

tragic--my prayers are with them. He was their worst nightmare, I'm sure.

I hope he gets what he deserves for murdering her.

My heart is breaking over this. One of my roommates from a ballet summer intensive program danced with her at Mercyhurst. From everything I have heard, she was a talented, promising young dancer with a beautiful spirit. What a tragedy. My prayers will be with her friends and family and I hope the young man responsible is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I am kind of digusted about the handling of this though....I think family and le all already had an idea of everything - then the parents didn't bother pleaing, only things done by them etc....she could have been found much earlier.

I don't understand everything you are trying to say above, but....

I am not sure I agree. I think they knew all along that this was an investigation and not a search. I think their emphasis was on finding and not disturbing evidence. All they had to go on was the ping from the phone and went from there. Much of the area they had to search was not easy and it took time.

OP here. I teach at the high school that both Jenni-Lyn and the suspect under arrest graduated from two years ago.

Can't even begin to tell you the mix of emotions going on in our school's community tonight... but it helps to know so many other people out there with no connection to the case have shown concern and offered help. As the story unfolded, I learned one of my friends was Jenni-Lyn's cousin, her father is on our school board and her mother works with my DH. Syracuse is a fairly large city and yet very small in many ways. Even those of us who knew Jenni-Lyn and her family peripherally (I actually was acquainted better with the accused) are very sad tonight.

As a teacher in this community, it's also incredibly hard to imagine any of your student either being a victim of such an act, or the accused. We're now experiencing both. You never want to see this happen to kids you know.

On a more practical note...
Some of you may remember a case featured a couple of years back on Primetime about a woman (Stacey Castor) who went on trial for killing her husband with antifreeze. This is the same town (Liverpool), even the same road where Jenni-Lyn was found; and, it's the same DA. People around here tend to love him or hate him... but he's a pitbull in the courtroom (in the best sense of the word IMO). I'll be surprised if he doesn't prosecute this personally.

Thanks again for all the comments and positive thoughts while we still held hope. Please keep directing those toward the Watsons as they go through this incredibly difficult time.

P.S. I was told Jenn-Lyn's mom had a candle in her window keeping vigil for her return. Many of us are posting a candle as our profile pics on Facebook now that we've heard the news. If you're so inclined to join us, we'd welcome it.

ITA. The undersheriff and DA essentially said as much. They believed last week that she was killed. I know from a source close to the family that Steve allegedly gave conflicting statements. I think they were hoping to draw more clues out of him before arresting him.

The area IS very rough. You'd think in such a suburban area it wouldn't be, but the terrain is very marshy and isolated. Part of it is state property. About the only other thing out there are a couple of gun clubs. But about a mile north and you hit an interstate and major shopping area. About a mile south and it's densely residential and commercial. But that one tract is very remote. The park she was found in is really not used this time of year and a ways back from the main road. I drove by Wednesday. :sad2:
