Missing rental reservation - freaking out!

Hi - I am hoping someone can help me out with some advice or at least calm me down. I have 2 reservations (WLV and AKL) that I made via point rental from someone on the DIS rent/trade board.

Everything has been fine until now. I received the confirmations for both reservations and saw them both listed on the Disney website under the My Disney Experience.

But now all of a sudden the WLV reservation is not showing up anymore. I tried to relink it but it gave me an error that the reservation number is wrong. I tried to contact the person that I rented from but I get an error that he is no longer accepting PMs (huge red flag!). I did email him (just an hour ago) but obviously havent' heard back. I tried calling central reservations but as expected they couldn't help me because it was a DVC reservation. And as I understand it, I can't personally call DVC to see if the reservation still exists or if it got cancelled and I am out big $$$, right?

Any suggestions on what to do? Who to call? I'm not sure if this is just a MDE issue or a scam issue. I've been diligently checking the reservations each week and they have both been on the MDE website since the very beginning each and every time. Until now.

This is serious $$$ and I am really stressed that I may have become one of the few people to get burned by renting points. I am optimistic that it will work out as my renter is still a somewhat frequent poster on other DVC topics on the board. But I can't PM him. ???

Have you tried calling him? Any red flags when you checked his references? What is his rental history?

There is nothing you can do if it's a scam but since one reservation still shows up, there is a good chance that there is an error somewhere.

Good luck. :goodvibes

MDE is very quirky, I wouldn't freak out yet. Try the link Carol gave.

OMG! I used that link and it says that the reservation has been canceled. Now what? I have dealt with this renter only via email and disboards PMs. If he doesn't respond to my emails I guess I am just out the money. And I would suppose probably the AKV reservation may be canceled soon too? I am about to puke.

It is possible your reservation has been given a new number. Wait until you can get a hold of the renter. If your AKV reservation is still there it probably is only that. I remember reading a thread not too long ago and that was what had happened

Good Luck.

This is not the person that wanted you to do a wire transfer is it? Good luck and hope its just a mix-up somewhere.

Still don't freak out. DVC has a nasty habit of making changes to reservations that end up with different reservation numbers (and who knows why, but they do). It would still say cancelled under the old number. Just keep trying to contact the owner.

One time something like this happened to me, except I am a DVC owner. I had called DVC to do something routine, like add the dining plan to an existing reservation, and, the person in member services somehow cancelled the reservation, and then had to remake it. They didn't explain what had happened, just kept me on hold for an extremely long time. When I got off the phone, I tried to check my reservation, to see whether the changes had been done and it had been cancelled. Was able to figure it out, finally. Good luck to you.

Thank you all for your kind words and help. Yes, it is all figured out!!! Indeed, DVC had assigned it a new reservation number. And no, this is not the person that wanted the wire transfer. :) I researched quite a bit and felt that I had gone with a good renter with a good history on this board and who is a regular contributor. And sure enough, he has quickly sorted everything out for me. :) Whew!

Gosh what a scare, I'm glad to hear it's all been sorted! I hate reading threads that end badly, I myself (an owner) have had great success in both renting and buying points transfers on occasion but the transaction always involves a bit of apprehension

DVC once changed all of my reservations so at around 1am I saw that they had been cancelled. I thought I was going to keel over that night...

They had previously put everything under one #, and they were switching that to each part of my stay (1 bedroom at OKW, 2 bedroom at OKW, studio somewhere else) having its own #, but that wasn't on the page that showed it was cancelled.

It's not a good feeling, even when it's your own reservation and you KNOW you didn't do anything to it.
