Has she checked to see if the car had Onstar? I see that it is a Chevrolet, but since it was a rental, it may not. Can his cell phone company give her any information about his cell phone? Sometimes they can give a general area of one based on the towers it is hitting.

My prayers are with him and his family, what an nightmare they must be going through . I hope he is okay and just ran away and contacts his family soon. The car rental is key in finding him and eventually the car company if not the police will get involved, report it stolen.

Safetymom........I obviously do not know what steps Law Enforcement has taken so far, but this might be a suggestion if they haven't tried it:
