Why are there missing building numbers at OKW?

There are no buildings numbered 1-10 or 57-61... or a total of 15 building numbers not used. Anyone know why?

There has been speculation on the boards over the years. The best explaination I've heard is that on the original plans for the resort, it is likely there were more buildings, but plans changed before any construction began but the buildings weren't re-numbered.

The original OKW plans called for the current design of the resort. There has never been an explanation about the numbering system. I'd suspect that there is no 1-9 since they wanted 4 digit room numbers - where the first two digits identify the building, the third identifies the floor and the 4th identifies the room on that floor. (Certainly 10 could have been used though).

The areas of the resort are basically numbered based on which construction phase was being completed - buildings 11-29 are all from Phase I at OKW (the 1BRs all have a single access to the bathroom - thru the bedroom in these buildings - #30 and higher all have a second access door thru the laundry area). Phase II included buildings 30 - 44 (all in the Old Turtle Pond section of the resort). Phase III was South Point (buildings 45 - 56) and the final phase was buildings 62-64 - built when the original sales center (Commodore House) was torn down and Miller's Road was reconfigured from it's original path. The original models were located in Building 16.

Thanks! Now I know!

They sold those buildings to Marriot before they were sold to members. ;)
