Missing boy Ben Ownby from Missouri Found alive with another missing boy!

I know I was saying the same thing!! I hope someone does something special for this kid!!

We are heading to WDW in a few days and I asked DH if we could pick something up for all 3 boys--Just a little something to let them know they were on our minds.

I took Bens disappearance hard because he looks so much like my boys. I would tear up off and on the past couple of days and bawled like a baby when I heard he'd been found

That is so nice of you...:goodvibes

This brought back memories of a true story that they made a movie about called "I know my first name is Steven". It was the story of Steven Stayner from California who was abucted as a child in California, and escaped after 7 years when his abductor took another child and saved him. Did anyone else remember this? I don't know the circumstances of what happenend in Missouri, but just so glad it had a happy ending.

ben's neighbor who described the truck should get the reward $$$ offered for finding shawn!!!

Yes, I remember the film and I also read the book. He went through so much and unfortunately it did not get much better for him after he was reunited with his family.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw this thread... Steven's story did not end well though... didn't he have trouble re-adjusting & ultimately die in an accident ?

Yes, I remember hearing that he died, I think it was about 8 or 9 years ago.

I saw that movie a couple of times. I found it haunting.

And didn't his (Stephen Stayner's) brother murder that mother and daughter in Oregon?

But thank God they got both these boys back and I wish they could fry this pig of a man.

This story didn't have a happy ending for Steven, after being found and living a somewhat trouble life, he was killed in a motorcycle accident at the age of 21.

Hopefully Shawn can get the help he will need to handle everything he has been through and have as normal a life as possible.

I agree.

That pig of a man is a CONVICTED child molester:mad:

Next to impossible to help them. Life in prison or death is the only way to keep our children safe from these people.

When I hear the stories of children who have been missing for some time, I always feel for the parents because the chances of their children returning home are so small. Then, a story like this comes along. Sometimes, miracles really do happen!

I hope they don't release any more info about the charges other than kidnapping. I don't want to know. I know they will, but I just wish they would not.

I truly hope the parents of Shawn will be able to get him the help he will need and he will be able to move on with his life. Look at Elisabeth Smart she was sexually abused for almost a year and I believe is doing well.

The local news is now reporting strange entries on the blog of the older boy, Shawn Hornbeck--the one missing for 4 years. His parents have a website and a blog about his story and there are strange entries from someone named "Shawn Devlin of Kirkwood". Devlin being the last name of the kidnapper and Kirkwood being the location where they're at. Sorry, I can't find a link on their site, but they're talking about it on their broadcast.

ETA: now the news is reporting that Sean Hornbeck had identified himself as Sean Devlin to neighbors. He's been seen playing outside. Neighbors have talked to this boy.

His official "Find Shawn" website has been down for a few hours now. I guess they pulled it to investigate.

According to Reuters, a neighbor saw Shawn playing outside with friends for years and just assumed he was the guy's son. Amazing. Just amazing.

I know! The way I figure it is that Devlin must have moved around a bit after he kidnapped Shawn and then changed his appeareance. Probably hair dye and taking out the earring. Now that he is 4 years older he has probably changed so much that most wouldn't recognize him from the picture. It just makes me sick.

how long are you planing to look for your son?

I am bawling right now reading that. I donb't know why. I just became very overwhelemed that the little boy was calling out for help:sad1: :sad1:

ETA--Scary thought--It could have been the kidnapper getting his jollies out of seeing how far he could push it. Going as far as posting on the familys blog!!!!!!!!!

We were absolutely amazed when they broke this story on the local news, as were those reporting it; one of the on-scene reporters nearly broke down in tears several times. I can't even begin to imagine what those poor boys--especially Shawn--must have gone through. To be robbed of 4½ years of your childhood--how do you even begin to attempt to have a normal life after that?

Hi Beth---

Another St. Louisan here (about 10-15 min. from Kirkwood)-----are they thinking Shawn made these strange entries on the blog, or the kidnapper?? May I ask what network news you are watching?? I can't believe this guy has worked for Imo's on Kirkwood Road for 20 years.

This is an amazing story----I've been crying with happiness all afternoon!!! I hope the boys, especially Shawn because of the time issue, get the emotional help that they will need.
