Day 3

The kids were so exhausted from the last couple of days that the plan was for me to take the Keys to the Kingdom tour while they slept in and then played around the hotel. We were to meet up later for family fun before heading to Epcot for dinner at Le Cellier.

I was up early, and made sure to have my ticket and ID in hand BEFORE I left the hotel. The lights were off and everyone was still in bed when I left. I was at the park before the opening. It was very quiet today, and I enjoyed a quick breakfast at the Main Street Bakery before going on to my tour.

Our tour guide was Robin, and she was awesome. She did a fantastic job of making the tour interesting and funny. Of course, she could have been making a good percentage of it up, I’m not sure I’d know the difference. We had a great lunch at Columbia Harbor House; I’d never eaten there before but will certainly remember it on future trips. After lunch my headset stopped working, and the spare set had already been used, so Robin just made a point of keeping me close, and making sure I could hear. I was really surprised at how much of a difference the headset made. I hadn’t realized until it didn’t work how softly Robin was able to talk, thus not disturbing other park goers.

Pete had said he might go ahead and bring the kids to the park, and that he’d call me if I was to meet them. I checked my phone after the tour, but there weren’t any messages. Privately I was glad. It was such a hot day, and we did a lot of walking, and I was ready for a break. I headed back to the hotel, and found that our room was dark and everyone was sleeping. Kind of a dose of déjà vu as it was exactly the same as it had been when I left. I crawled in bed and enjoyed a nap with the rest of the crew.

When Pete and I woke up we headed out to the balcony. I teased him about staying in bed all day. Then he told me what they’d done: A quick swim, then off to Fort Wilderness to check out all the things closed the first day. A tour of the petting zoo, checking out the pony rides, and playing on the playground. Then they rented a bicycle and drove it back to the Wilderness Lodge, then down to the beach to play in the sand, then another quick swim before they headed in for the nap. I was ready for another nap just hearing about that!

We decided that instead of heading back to Epcot, we’d just eat supper at the Wilderness Lodge. Mallory was in cranky mode (Did I mention she got six teeth while we were there? And two more the week we got home.), even though our waitress gave her reins and tried to get her to ride the highchair like a bucking bronco, she just wouldn’t settle down. I finally let her down and followed her around the restaurant while Pete ate, then we traded. There was an employee door that Mallory was determined to get through. I tried deflecting her, I tried distracting her, but even from the very back of the restaurant, as soon as she thought I wasn’t looking she’d make a beeline for that door. I don’t know what she thought she was going to find behind it. We never did get to really enjoy Whispering Canyon the entire time we were there. It seemed like either the kids were too cranky, or we were just too tired to enjoy all the antics.

We headed back up to the room for another early night, although we did stay up late enough to see the Electric Light Parade.
