Miss California.

Then let's make a thread about every other contestant who stumbled over words, and wasn't to articulate?
Okay, listen. Most people only listen to people who have good speaking skills and can articulate themselves. If somebody came here and said 'hai, ii dont lyke gay peoples cuz that how ii wuz raized in mi cuntryy' would you even listen? No. If somebody plans to discuss a touchy subject (especially if they're representing the more...conservative view) they need to be eloquent so others will respect their honesty.

Miss California was far from it.

::yes::

Sorry to kind of jump in but as it's been said before, the contestants were given the questions before so they could practice their answers before hand for whatever question they might have gotten.

Miss California should have practiced her answers more if she wanted a chance at the crown.

You're saying she should lie. "Dancing around a question" is lying, and it's not "smart". Personally, I'm sick of BSers, and people who lie in order to be PC. We, as Americans have the right to freedon of speech.

As for her having no business putting her personal beliefs in a pageant--- wrong again. She was asked a direct question (not like she just put it out there---she was asked and had to answer---immediately), and if I want ANYone representing America, it's someone who know's how to be honest. Someone who is confident enough not to let a gay man bully her into feeling guilty about her own beliefs. Shame on him for asking that question to begin with. He knew she'd either better agree with him and HIS views, or he was going to make her life hell. Well, I think he made himself look like the idiot he is, and now she is moving on. A "gay man" should not have asked that question. What a bully. Then he publically called her names?? Just for being honest? He's making himself look really bad.

They should screen those questions. She could have been asked about immigration, abortion, who political party she is registered as, etc.... and no matter what, if she answered truthfully, she would have offended a lot of people. Totally unfair. She shouldnt have to agree with everyone in the world---not to mention, that's impossible. This is an outrage.

I respect her for answering the question truthfully. She should not have to lie about her beliefs just to be looked at as a good representative of America.

And yes---you, I and everyone else knows darn well that this IS about the fact that she believes in traditional marriage between a man and a woman.
And by the way, a person canno't support everything. Maybe we should get a robot to be the next winner.

Thank you.

I completely agree with Miss California USA 110%.

She was asked the question, & answered in the best way fit.
I do pageants, & I think she answered the question really well.

Perez Hilton pisses me off because just because she doesn't agree with his way of life, he didn't give her the score she deserved basically.
It was almost like her beliefs costed her the crown which I disagree with so much.

& Now she wants to do an anti-gay marriage commercial, & the Miss California USA organization wants to strip her of her crown?! Absolutely rediculous.

Imagine being on stage...& having someone ask you a question that you know if you don't answer with what THEY agree with, you're screwed.
Miss California was put into that position & was put under pressure so she had to gather her thoughts together & build up the confidence to say in the end "This is what I believe. Take it or leave it."

I really wanted to stay out of this conversation...
lol

It's definitely not ridiculous for her to be stripped of her crown for doing an anti-ANYTHING commercial!!!!!!

And again, I've said it before and I'll say it again.
When you're a pageant girl you should be prepared, confident, politically correct, and ready to answer whatever question they give you in the best, most respectful and articulate way possible under pressure.
I understand that public speaking is tough, but for someone whose in the running for Miss America it shouldn't be. lol
That'd be like if public speaking was tough for a college professor...it's what they do all the time, they should be used to it IMHO

She is running for Miss America, if her public speaking skills aren't up to par, she simply shouldn't have been in the running.

Also, I agree with Caitlin. Doing an anti-gay marriage commercial is ridiculous and she should be stripped of her crown. What ever happened to equal rights?

Equal rights does not mean having to be PC. Or, being punished because you don't agree with the next person, especially if it goes against your moral and religious beliefs.

If people can't speak on behalf of their beliefs, then let's get rid of all the pro-(add whatever liberal cause you want here) commercials and ad's. Works both ways. Don't be hypocritical people.

We know what this is really about.

The point is, she shoul've been more articulate. She running for Miss America for goodness sakes, she should have her public speaking skills refined. She used a very poor choice of words.

So, you're saying she should be perfect.

What if someone told you you had no business posting on a public website because you don't know how to spell "should've"?

With your logic, nobody should listen to you, either--

I think we need a very PC robot to make everyone happy.

In my opinion, it wasn't Miss California's fault, she was asked a hard question to answer.

Yet, I am glad she didnt win because I am from NC and I wanted
Miss North Carolina to win.

But if California wasn't asked that question she was a shoe-in :)

That was a typo; comparably, we wouldn't be having this conversation if she had said 'uhm' once. When you make up a phrase like 'opposite marriage' on stage, you deserve to be told your public speaking skills need work.

I think people are way over-reacting to this. She got her words messed around, so what? She's put on a big spotlight and it's a pretty tense moment since she knows she's answering such a emotional topic in front of someone who's openly homosexual. I'd probably be pretty nervous too. Give her a break.

Why isn't it rediculous? It's her personal opinion, she should be able to do whatever she wants based on her beliefs.

Well, she isn't running for Miss America first of all. Miss America would NEVER ask a question like that. & She was being respectful. By saying "no offense" she wasn't being rude, she truly didn't want to offend anyone.

She has to be a good public speaker to have won Miss California USA though..

I'm sure she's a great public speaker, because she wouldn't have won Miss California USA then. It's just the fact she was under pressure with a question she knew was something that may break her chaces of winning.

It's her opinion, her beliefs. She should be allowed to express those opinions & not be penalized for them. What ever happened to freedom of speech?

Your personal opinion goes out the window when you are competing to represent America at the future Miss Universe competition.

Good grief, can we let this thing die already?

That's the problem right there. No one can be honest. They always have to give the "perfect" answer. Personal opinion is what should be expressed. She shouldn't have to express the opinion of America, because no one has the same opinion.

Aha, now you've discovered why I don't like pageants! It's stupid and meaningless - when you win what do you get to say? "Oh I'm prettier than her and gave a better answer?"
It's stoooooopid.

I guess you could say that about anything, though. Your dance team just won a national competition. Now what? You can go around saying you danced better than the other team and probably looked better. Nothing really more to it.

Oh yeah, there is one thing that drives all of us, wether it be a dancer or a beauty queen... money and fame
