I'm sitting here watching a mindless VH1 thing about dance songs, and before the commercial breaks they're showing results from polls on their website.

The latest poll was for the Top 5 wedding songs--

"Every Breath You Take" was #2! :confused3

It's a pretty song, but it's certainly not a happy song about love! He wrote it while his marriage was breaking up. It's a song about pain and obession. Not exactly what I'd expect to hear between the toasts and the cake cutting!!!

What other songs do you know that seem to always be misinterpreted?

Cyndi Lauper--She Bop
Tony Orlando & Dawn--Tie a Yellow Ribbon
Peter, Paul, & Mary--Puff The Magic Dragon

Anne

my dd when she was about five was in her G-mother's pool singing stay'n alive
but she thought it was skin'm alive we never laughed so hard in all our days. :rotfl2:

Eric Clapton, "You look beautiful tonight". He was waiting for his wife, Patty Boyd, at the time, to get ready and she was taking way too long, he was angry and annoyed. Lets not forget the song by the Kingmen that everyone, including J.Edgar Hoover's FBI, misinterpreted; Louie, Louie. Police, FBI agents, etc were staked out just to listen to the lyrics because of course, everyone assumed that they were X rated. They weren't. There is a book out about Louie Louie by one of the band members. It is called; Louie, Louie, Me Gotta Go Now. It sounds like a fun read. I think I will read it after I read Howie Carr's book, The Brothers Bulger.

My dd, when she was 3, used to sing "Bad Toys, Bad Toys" whenever the Cops tv show theme was on, you know 'Bad boys, bad boys, watcha gonna do".... :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Ack! My DD (16) and I are sitting here watching the same thing right now!

I thought the same thing about "Every Breath You Take". It's a classic stalker song.

Two of the other top 5 I had issues with as well.

"My Heart Will Go On"~ nice song, but it's about love lost, not found. And when you tie it in with the movie, it's kind of morbid.

"Unforgettable" (duet Nat "King" Cole and Natalie Cole") again, nice song. But I always though it was kind of morbid doing a duet with your dead father. I'd chose the original with just Nat if I wanted the song.

I totally agree Deb! This was my BIL and SIL's "song" and I never understood the reason for picking it other than it was popular when they started dating.
