im basically just trying to pass time right now.

im gonna keep this short sweet and simple. i found this video a while back, and loved it and i think it serves a great purpose.

for a looong time, i wondered how celebrities got their skin to look so clear, and their hair to be so long, straight, and healthy. for their eyelashes to be so perfect, at the perfect length/color/etc. then i came to a conclusion; it was all fake.

watch this, its only like a minute long. promise you won't regret it :)

Wow.
I'm actually righting a paper on this as we speak. Thank you for that.

Some celebrities are actually, I wouldn't say perfect, but are very, very good looking.
There are just some people who are blessed with nice features, a lot of people I know look like this. No blemishes, beautiful hair and just crazy beautiful.
Yes, a lot of what we see is fake though.

Just wondering, why are you against it, Shelby?

because its a pretentious 'campaign' that isn't fuled by good intentions-only money making schemes. it makes money by rocking people to their emotional core, while simultaneously putting down all of its competition.

tell me, why would the campaign for real beauty sell AGE DEFYING cream while, in one ad, it brings up that one woman is 'too old to be beautiful' by the standards of their competition.

all they did was get a few plus size model (average plus size model wears a size 14. the size 14 is not plus size) and a few older, former models and they put them in white tshirts and made them laugh.

its not about making people feel good, its not about changing the fashion industry, its about making money.

I completly agree with Shelby...if it was the campagin for 'real beauty' wouldn't we NOT need their products.
I've always thought of it as an oximoron.

Wow,

I seriously couldnt have said that any better.

I totally agree.

theres no actual misconception of what beauty is... theres this whole divine proportion thing in which defines what we see as beautiful... in short, theres a spiral proportion, and the more the persons feature lines up to that spiral, the more beautiful they are... what photoshop does, is try to make the persons feature match up to those proportions.. it doesnt actually tell us what beautiful is... so theres no real mis-conception about what beauty is..

yea, i know.. that probably sounded really confusing, but we were learning about it in humanities and i thought it was really interesting

the only reason they do that to the models is because if they were anything less than perfect, people would be disinclined to buy their product. i think its only natural that, as technology advances, the models pictures grow increasingly fake

I completely agree with Shelby.

I was on the website for the campaign the other day and I realized how ridiculous it is.

It's telling old women "your wrinkles are beatiful, don't be embarassed of them, BUT here's an anti-wrinkle cream for you to fix them with :goodvibes "

Their "plus size" models are pathetic, they all have GREAT bodies, they are all perfectly proportioned and beautiful.

but anyways, I don't really think there is a misconception of beauty, I mean, I think Kate Winslet and Angelina Jolie are absolutley beautiful, I think some women walking down the street are beautiful, I've seen bigger women walking down the street and thinking that they are beautiful.
I think beauty is a personal opinion really.

But its NOT true!!!
Recent psychological studeis show that women are just as likely to buy a product with a regular sized model than a size zero or no person on the advert at all. The whole 'beauty sells' doesn't! It makes no impact on the population at large, just a very few insecure ones.
