I have been thinking about this subject a lot lately. There was a woman that was supposed to be on the helicopter that collided with the plane in New York whose son woke up and decided he really didn't want to go so they didn't. I'm sure I would have been irritated at the time, but SO thankful later. There were people who weren't in the WTC on 9/11 who should have been but missed their train or for some other reason were running late.
Do you have any personal stories, maybe something that happened to you, a family member, or a friend? The personal one that I can think of is that when I was in 6th Grade, one of my classmates had a sister (or step-sister...can't remember for sure) who was in college and had been in Britain for her semester abroad. It was time for her to come home and she missed her plane (I believe she got caught up in all of the pre-boarding procedures.) She was told that she would have to take the next flight instead. Of course, that seemed like an inconvenience. However, the flight that she was supposed to be on was the flight that was blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland. If she had been on it, she would have been killed. That event has always stuck with me but I started really thinking about it because Scotland is getting ready to release one of the bombers for "compassionate" reasons as he has been diagnosed with cancer.
