I know these things are all the rage at Disneyland, but can you get them anywhere in Walt Disney World?

Sadly, no. I wish, though. When DH were in DL in 2001, we had about 2 of those every day!! YUMMY!!!

Isn't a mojito like a lime drink with fresh mint leaves crushed into it?

The julep is smoother. I had the recipe and you actually use creme de menthe liquor but you cook the liquor out of it. It's very sweet and refreshing. It's similar to a mojito but no mint leaves.

From "Cooking with Mickey Vol. I"

Ingredients
1 cup Sugar
3 tsp. Lime Juice Concentrate
3 cups Soda Water
6 tbsp. Creme DeMenthe (hard to find, but this is important)
6 oz. thawed Lemonade Concentrate

Directions
Dissolve sugar into soda water. Add lime juice and lemonade and bring to boil.
Remove from heat and add Creme DeMenthe. Chill. To serve, combine 3 parts syrup to 5 parts water.
Yield: Approx. 2/3 gallon.

Yay! The recipe is BACK!!! Thanks! :thumbsup2

These come from New Orleans Square in Disneyland... delish!

The mint juleps are citrus based with a creme de menthe blend. Of course, it has to be non-alcoholic creme de menthe as alcohol is not served in DL... but they are so refreshing on a hot day with a plate of fritters!

:thumbsup2

I had no idea the recipe was out! Now I can make these and force my kids to listen to CDs of the Pearly Band :rotfl:

WDW doesn't have a New Orleans Square, but these drinks could definitely be served up at Port Orleans resort!

Sorry guys, but Disney is wrong on this one. What you're describing ain't no Mint Julep. Where's the bourbon? the fresh mint leaves? the Derby glass?

When I did a google image search this is what I got, is this what they look like at WDL??

that looks something like a mojito....although mojito is made with rum..

I guess Disney's version of a mint julep is not authentic, it is more Disney style.

Mojito recipe:

1.5 oz BACARDI Rum
12 fresh spearmint leaves
1/2 lime
7 oz club soda
2 tbsp. simple syrup
(or 4 tsp. sugar)

Mint julep:

2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water (branch water is ideal)
Fresh Mint
Crushed Ice
Kentucky Bourbon (2 ounces per serving)

I've never had one. Disney version or otherwise.

Are the "real" ones like a Lynchburg Lemonaid?

Definately not. If you can imagine sweet, syrupy, minty Bourbon, then you have an idea. I, for one,(although I hate to admit this as a Kentuckian)do not like them at all. This year for the Derby, I decided to make some and give it another try. I made my simple syrup and steeped my mint leaves for 2 weeks and used Woodford Reserve Bourbon. Guess what? It still tasted like Bourbon! :lmao: I think you have to be a Bourbon drinker to like them. From now on I'm saving my Bourbon for the one thing I do like-Bourbon Balls!!!!
