Minor Rant: Orlando Traffic Lights and Radio Stations

Just back from a quick visit, and I have two main questions (actually, one main question in two parts). Actually, it's a rant. But bear with me:

- What is up with Orlando traffic lights and radio stations?

Here are my beefs:

- Whoever timed the traffic signals appears to have used a calendar, not a stop watch. At light after light, it felt as if we were sitting forever waiting for the signal to change. I mean, I had to shave again and touch up my gray I was waiting there so long. What's going on with that? With all of the east-coast immigrants who have settled in the area, you'd think they would adapt the signals accordingly. I'm just sayin . . . . :snail: :snail: :snail:

- While spending my soon-to-be golden years waiting at these traffic lights, I had ample opportunity to explore Orlando's radio spectrum. It appears to be pretty evenly split between stations that play 70s rock and Spanish-language stations. I have no beef with the Spanish stations, and in fact enjoy listening on occasion. My complaint is with the rock. As nostalgic as it was to hear Bad Company and Grand Funk Railroad, I would like to alert the management of these stations that there has been music, some of it good, created AFTER 1980! Trust me, it's out there, you just have to go looking for it! :cool1:  :cool1:

Okay, I'm done. Thank you for your time. I now return you to your regularly-scheduled Disboards . . .

I said the same thing about the stoplights. There is one by the airport that we timed at almost 5 minutes!!! I think they want people to sit and wait knowing they are almost to the happiest place on earth, but the darn light won't change till tomorrow morning.

I agree with you. There are a few roads where the lights are timed. I miss the choice of radio stations I had up North.

the light situation is the same here. There are some areas of town where the lights are perfectly timed. You will only sit at one red light and after that they will all be green.

There are also lights that turn green and then as soon as you get to the next light it turns red. THAT pisses me off beyond belief!

As far as radio stations, I love Orlando's selection! I remember driving there during christmas and we found a channel playing all techno remixes. Considering I'm used to a station playing the same song every hour until it has been played to death and moving onto the next song, it was nice to hear something different.

I lived in FL for 2 years and I might have listened to 10 minutes of the radio. Can you say iPod enabled radio! If you are renting a car just buy a little RF adapter and bring it with you for the ride, it is well worth it not to listen to the radio.

I drove to WDW from Tampa so avoided most of the lights while I was down there. I just took I-4 to Exit 62 and there was only 1 light on it. I have a feeling though that the more driven areas of Orlando have the lights timed in a way to allow lost tourists who are looking around instead of concentrating to not plow into other motorists. I don’t know how one would do that but I am not a civil planner.

The only radio I enjoy in Orlando is "Real Radio" with the monsters in the morning...I listen to that channel on XM, some of the best talk radio I've heard.

Why I have XM, I always get something good on the radio.

The lights...well....civil engineers at work. I heard a great quote once. Military Engineers build weapons and civil engineers build targets...
