Minor MSEP Heads Up...

MSEP premiered at Disneyland in 1972, so the music dates back to then. The parade is iconic and the music adds so much of its character. Listening to it over and over is part of the experience!
The song, Baroque Hoedown, was not a Disney created song. It was created by Jean Jacques-Perry in 1967 to showcase the moog on his album. He was never even told that Disney was using it until he went on a trip in the 80's and heard it in the parade. He loved it!

Love the MSEP music, it reminds me of my childhood. I cry almost every time I hear it. That's what going to WDW every year for 40 years will do. Reminds me of sitting on my grandfathers shoulders. It holds great memories for me and now for my kids.

That looping ditty is just the backing track, and is (or used to be) piped thru the stationary speakers in the buildings. Have you not noticed that each float has (or is supposed to have) its own melody that plays in synch with the backing track?

Have they stopped doing this? Admittedly, I haven't seen MSEP in a long time...

Yes Musically its called Variation of a Theme and each float adds its own version to the backing track.

But i know why certain people like or hate the music and its more of a Spectro vs MSEP thing. For me I have only seen MSEP for all my visits. I first saw it as a teenager when it had a huge impact on me and is one of the few things I remember from that trip and its the first Disney parade that my then 8 and 9 year old sons watched. So its more of a nostalgia issue. Or that certain people just don't have the refinement to appreciate fine music. :music: ;)

Just got back from our trip. Yes, we watched the MSEP and it was fine... except for one thing... the music. It's a short little piece that repeats over and over until the ending piece with the final float. At first, we were thinking it would make a fine little ring-tone. By the 100th time, it was like "Please make it stop!" (No I didn't count but it sure felt like at least 100 - makes me wonder if anyone has ever counted how many times it repeats over the course of the entire parade.) It it just me that wishes they'd change up the music a bit as the parade progresses?
It actually does change up, at least in the MSEP full soundtrack that I just watched on Youtube. The basic tune does repeat in some variation or other, but it's not just the main little melody, and it progresses and changes (different sounds and variations) and they work in several classic Disney tunes too, I heard "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" (Cinderella), "You Can Fly" (Peter Pan), "Whistle While You Work" (Snow White), and one I couldn't identify, and I listened to about half of the 15 minute soundtrack.
The main little ditty does resurface several times throughout, but it's definitely not just a ten second clip repeating over and over.
I think it's adorable music and fits the parade well. But different strokes. :)

We were camped out in the Wishes FP+ area munching on snacks - so we were likely closer to the backing music speakers than to the actual float speakers so the backing drowned out a lot of the actual float music. Other than this, we saw plenty of the MSEP parade. I think we prefer daytime parades to the nighttime parades.

Ah, that makes sense. I've heard that the Wishes FP+ area isn't that great for MSEP, and this could be part of the reason why.

I have not been here on the DIS boards for too long. However, when I read threads like this I think to myself, maybe I'm getting it all wrong.

I thought DIS was short for DISney. As in, come here to the DISney boards and rejoice in all things DISney!

Clearing, I'm missing something. So, I looked up the definition of DIS.

According to Merriam-Webster, Dis:
:to criticize (something) in a way that shows disrespect

Ah. That explains (some) things.

My bad.

Back to the DIS-thread.

Here is a recording I made 2 years ago the last time I saw the Parade. It was from about 4 feet off the curb at the very top of the hub. Its hard to hear in the beginning but at around 7:00 you can start to here the add on tracks and around 10:00 thats mostly what you hear and not the background loop.

Its a little hard to hear since we had a large family in front of us really enjoying the parade so my camera picked them up a little more than the music at times. It may sound a little off but its just how my camera recorded it. the background track comes from sort of the rear and the extra music from the floats so its a tad out of phase for the recording.

I have it as my alarm ringtone. That way if forces me to get up because it's like nails on a chalkboard to me. Now spectromagic I could listen to all day

Back to the DIS-thread.
It's been kind of a disappointment to me too. I keep telling myself to stay away from the threads that are complaining and criticizing because they really can be a drag for those of us who are excited about upcoming trips.
The MSEP is one of the things I'm really looking forward to, so when I saw this thread I thought "Oh no. What now?"
It seems that the OP's "minor rant" about the music should actually be a "minor heads up" that watching the MSEP from the Wishes FP+ area isn't ideal. The music is not, as indicated in the rant, a loop of the same ten second tune 100 times over. Not at all. And someone new to WDW who browsed this board and read the OP of this thread wouldn't know any different. The truth only came out many posts later when the OP added the fact that they weren't in an ideal spot to hear the full version of the music. That makes a difference.
That this issue, the soundtrack of a parade, is important enough to warrant a "rant" thread is, unfortunately, typical.
I'm close to being done with the DISboards. I'm afraid time spent here might suck the magic out of my upcoming trip. I don't want the complaints and criticisms on this board to be in the back of my mind when I'm trying to have a great time.

I agree with you. I like the daytime parades especially the Festival of Fantasy Parade soundtrack (especially the Mickey Mouse club song!) because although the main FOF song plays several times throughout the parade, there is also other music playing depending on the float that is passing by.

When I saw MSEP this past year in the Wishes FP area, I didn't hear any float speakers just the train whistle. I do like the beat they have to MSEP, but it plays on the loop so many times which can get annoying. I thought it would be similar to some of the Youtube MSEP soundtrack which seem to have various songs playing and not necessarily the same 60 sec track.

That music reminds me of carrying my sleeping 2 year old from the back of Adventure Land all the way out , fighting the crowd that was gathered to watch the parade the whole way. That was over 15 years ago, my son is now a senior in HS applying for colleges and weighs in at 210lbs. Next week I'm going to make him carry me out !!!

Oh no, it's in my head and won't go away!

Maybe the DIS boards needs a special DIS forum where people can dis all that the things they DIS-like?

Okay, now I'll try and be serious.

Why put a "rant" in a forum about Theme Park Attractions and Strategies? Why not put it in a forum that deals specifically with things people aren't happy with? That way people can safely enter a forum and not have their happy bubbles popped.

I've seen other forums (on completely different topics) do this. People had concerns and criticism about something that they wanted to openly discuss. But they didn't want it getting in the way of the "I'm looking for help" questions. So they created a separate forum for that.

Although, if the DISboards creates a DISrant forum, they might have to purchase more server space. Just saying.

(darn it, I didn't stay serious)

Since a few seem to only see the word "rant" and not see the word "minor" in the thread title, I changed it. My intention was not to rain on anyone's parade - so to speak.

The music of MSEP is my single most favorite thing about Disney World. And yes, the floats still do have their own track.
