Hi all,

First, I'm walker, not a runner -- although for walking a do a fairly brisk pace of 11-13 mins. per mile depending on weather, distance and mood.

Recently I've been using the Galloway 5K app to working on increasing my pace. As part of this program, I've been doing some longer (up to 6-7 miles) walks.

A couple of times, I've gotten what feels like a bruise on the "edge" of the outer sole of my foot directly across from the heel end of my arch. (Sorry if that description doesn't make sense!).

It feels enough like a bruise that the first time I thought I'd stepped on one of my dog's toys and just hadn't registered it at the moment. But now I seeing a correlation between increased training and what we'll call, very scientifically, my recurring foot boo-boo.

I'm wondering if this is a common nuisance injury and if it means anything that I should heed and correct.

Thanks for any opines! E.

Have you been to a specialized shoe store for running/walking? I love to walk, I go to the parks every weekend and walk alot with my regular reeboks and never had any problem. But when I started training with Galloway's program, not only my feet, but my knees and calfs hurt.
I went to the Fl. Mall store called Fit 2 Run. They put me in regular walking shoes on a treadmill and record my running strides. They then slow it down and it showed that I over pronate (fancy term for wobbly ankles when landing) they took out several shoes options and had me jogging around the store to see which one felt more comfortable.
I got a pair of Nike lunarglide shoes, and never had any pain again.

Hope this helps

Thanks, yulilin3 -- I've been thinking about going to the local running store for my next pair of walking shoes. The Asics I bought in August when I started walking have served me well and are still in good condition, but I'd be curious to hear what the "experts" think...

Get fitted and a treadmill video is most helpful. Possible underpronation causing problem? Look at soles of current shoes.

A recent 5K was 28:10.9 speed walking and the Asics Gel Nimbus 13 shoes work fine but I am neutral.

Thanks John! Your advice is always appreciated.

I often think of when I'm walking. Usually to think that I'm never going to be as fast as you unless I put roller skates on me and a leash on you. :rotfl:
