Wanted to start a thread on things/ideas that help families while driving long distances. So here is what works for my family of 6. Each kid get on reasonable sized suitcase. We have an emergency change of clothes for everyone in a separate bag (you never know) plus extra hats/mitts in case. We have a roof topper for the stroller as it takes up too much valuable and limited space in the trunk. Next we have a plug-in freezer that is between the driver and passenger seats. We keep stuff there that the kids should not touch. We have a non-plug in cooler that has snacks like cheesy strings, etc in it for the kids. There are a couple box of juice boxes in the back for the backseat kids and another two for the middle row kids. In between the middle captain seats is a storage bin found at wally world that hold all sorts of miscell, but important things like plastic cups, spoons, napkins, wipes, etc. Then each kid has a good sized DVD/CD plastic cart that holds a fair amount. This is what they are allowed to take in the way of goodies. RULE if it does not fit in the crate comfortable (aka not breaking it) then it can go. Things like a DS or other game system. The games for the game system, music player and maybe some books. I always keeps a couple of grocery bags for emergency. I also swear by the sham wows (or knock-offs) for pretty much everything. I have one child who was a challenge to potty train and did not want to wear a pull-up so I put these under him and it was a god-sent; plus a piddle pad.
