I just returned from 8 nights at ASMu. I really enjoyed this resort. Sorry POP heads, but I liked it better. In general, the reasons I preferred ASMu over POP were: less crowded buses, less crowded pools, smaller & easy to negotiate layout, cute, yet subtle themeing, and more mature landscaping.:)

Here are the details:

:wizard: ME I know this is not part of the resort, but a bad ME experience can color people's perceptions. I arrived at MCO and got in the ME line at 8:45pm. I was at check-in by 9:45 and I had my luggage by 11:45pm. The bus was 3/4 full and made stops at POP, Sports, Music, and Movies in that order. Stops were quick and efficient.

 Check-In I literally walked right up and checked in. It was a Friday night and the resort seemed very quiet. Brenda was my CM and she was very helpful. I stayed for 2 nights on room only and that 6 nights on the dining plan pckg. She arranged for me to have the same room for both stays. She also preassigned my traveling companion (who was arriving for a check-in 2 days later) to be in the same general area as me. We were not in adjoining rooms. We were about 6 rooms apart. Perfectly acceptable to me.

:woohoo: The Room The room was clean, new, and had plenty of space for my son and I. I never felt cramped. I was assigned the Broadway area, which I thought was the cutest area of the resort. I was close to the ice machine and the piano pool. I loved the themeing, especially at night. I was on the first floor and at the front of the building. I was worried about noise, but it was quiet. There was only one morning where someone rolled a suitcase by at about 5:15am and talked in their "stage voice" which woke me up. Housekeeping was satifactory. I got 2 towel animals, tons of soap and shampoo, and many, many towels.

I did hear the turbo toilets. They were audible even with the bathroom door closed, but not that annoying. What was annoying was the upstairs neighbor I had who ran the water (I don't think it was the shower, but who knows) several mornings at 2am. This was loud and fully woke me up on 2 occasions. My traveling companion said she heard no water/shower noise to speak of. Next time - ear plugs.

:cool1: Resort As I said, this resort was smartly designed so that every location would be easy to find. I'm glad I was not in Country Fair. Not so much because it was farther, but because it was my least favorite section to look at. I thought everything was a close, fun walk. I walked (easily) to Sports and Movies to take pictures and nothing seemed terribly far. The trees, roses, and landscaping were all very attractive.

:3dglasses PoolsWow - I liked the pools soooooo much better than at POP. At POP I didn't even want to swim because of all the people. Here we actually spent a day at the pool instead of a water park. It was very relaxing, uncrowded, and there was plenty of seating. I liked the piano pool the best because it was close to my room and less crowded. At the main pool there was always something going on - games, music, movies, a giant beach ball. They really tried to keep people entertained.

:hourglass BusesAgain -SOOOOOOOOOO much better than POP. Last year (same week) the buses at POP were a nightmare. I stood a lot. At Music I rarely stood. Music had its own bus back from every park. Sports and movies shared coming back from Epcot and MGM. I'm not sure why, but they did. I can't remember whether they shared at AK. All the resorts shared some buses to DTD and TL. That was not a problem. Wait times were minimal. The bus drivers were friendly. One night we were coming home from one of the parks and we were standing near the front of the bus. The driver told us they had dispatched 8 buses to POP. OMG!

:sad2: Park CrowdsAgain - nothing to do with the resort, but it is influential. This year the last week of August was very crowded. I would guess the parks were at least twice as crowded as last year. Interestingly, as the number of guest grew at ASMu, the common areas never felt as crowded as POP did last year.

popcorn:: Food CourtFine - no issues, no problems. It was never super crowded and I could always find a seat. The food was fine. I ate there several times and tried the chicken with penne pasta, chicken enchiladas, and taco salad. All entrees were fine. Breakfast items were also tasty.

Well, that is my slant on things. :goodvibes I will definately stay there again in the future, but now that the secret is out about late August, I will return when the temperature and the crowds are lower. For all of you that have future trips planned - ENJOY!

Wow...thanks! DH and I will be @ ASMu in 2 weeks for our anniversary trip. I was worried because the only other value we've stayed @ was Pop and we LOVED it! After reading your review, I'm convinced that we'll love Music as well. Did you happen to notice if the food court had Tie-Dye cheesecake or Twinkie tiramisu? Those are the 2 things that I miss most from Pop. I know you can get the cheesecake from pizza delivery (from reading the allears All-star menus) but was wondering if you could get them af the food court. Also glad to know that the piano pool was peaceful as I was worried about the games and such at the other pools.

No tiramisu. They did have cheesecake. It had chocolate swirls in it. They had a nice ice cream bar which looked yummy. I regret that I did not partake. They had red powerade in the drink station. Interestingly, sports had green powerade and Music only had soda.

You will really enjoy the piano pool. It had the most tropical feel of all the pools. Trust me - I looked at all the all star pools. The big pool at sports was closed and all the construction made the resort look sort of junky. It was blazing hot and all those folks had was on small pool. I was SOOOO glad I was not staying there (all though sports was much cuter than I thought it would be).

Have an awesome trip!

Guess we'll be driving by Pop on our way home because I promised DD I'd bring back "her" tie-dye cheesecake.:lmao: Also happy to note that the other All-Stars are within walking distance as I wanted to take some pics. I'm glad you had a great time! Just hearing that others enjoyed their trips somehow reinforces the whole "pixie dust and magic" thing for me and makes me look forward to my own trip even more.

There was plenty of pixie dust there this trip. :wizard: And plenty more to go around!

Me and my family are really happy to hear that you had a great time at the resort. We had a hard time picking one, because besides staying off property 6 different times, the only other resort we stayed at was Carribbean Beach Resort, which we loved!!

:yay: Everytime I read a positive post about ASmu I get more excited.:yay:

I wanted to ask if you stayed in a preferred room or a standard room. We booked a preferred room to be closer to things.

We're staying at ASMo this coming Thursday. Do you think it's too late to switch to ASMu? We're going with friends (two rooms).

I'd really love a renovated room.

My room was standard. The preferred rooms are in Calypso and part of the Jazz Inn (I think). To be honest with you, I don't think I would have liked the front of Calypso building facing the pool because of the possible noise factor. The back side would probably be nice and Jazz Inn looked like a great location.

My DS and I did his "shortcut" through Jazz and we ended up near the main pool. It was a very easy walk from the Broadway location. I walked to get my coffee and then went back several days to get his breakfast. He is such a late sleeper that I was trying to move him along with room service! The double walk was no problem.

Compared to CBR, this resort is much more compact. Plus its landscaping was somewhat similar. Lots of hibiscus plants, palms, and big trees. Plus roses near the fountain - nice!

I guess you could try. The renovated rooms were nice. They were so clean and pleasant. I also think the food court looked was much cleaner at Music compared to Movies and Sports.

I did think the themeing at Movies was also cute, so don't be disappointed if you can't switch.

The theming (2 four-year olds in tow) is the only thing keeping me at ASMo right now.

We're huge music fans (the adults), but the kids....

Maybe I'll just call and see. Thanks!

Thanks! You have made me so hopeful! Our last stay at ASMu was horrible! Not the resort's fault, but bad planning on our part (Presidents day and 10,000 UDA kids, all at Music) all the same we have a bad taste in our mouths.

What's worse is they pitied us and gave us an "Upgrade" to preferred which put us right outside the pool! Not good with that many kids walking by our door, and me the light sleeper with zero patience for kids who are not my own.

Looking so forward to a better experience this time!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! We are looking forward to staying there in December.

It's so nice to read all of these great threads about ASMU! Thanks for posting!

Bumping incase anyone else wants to read about ASMU. :)

Great review! Thanks!! We are staying there for one night in December before moving to WL!

I am so glad you had a good stay at All Star Music.
It is aways good to read such a possitive report.
I also enjoy the more "subtle themeing, and more mature landscaping.:) ".......
I was happy to read that the buses were running smootly and that you found the buses and the resort to be less crowed than Pop.

Thanks for the review and..................................

Have fun planning your next trip to Disney!:wizard:

thanks for sharing such a great report, but now we need to shhhhhhh and keep it secret for ourselves ;) ;)

Thanks for the great report. I'll be at ASMusic Sept 29th-Oct 7th in a preferred room. When I booked it, I was told the preferred rooms were all in the Calypso building. I hope so. Does anyone know for sure?

OT: I'm a POP lover, having stayed there multiple times and being most comfortable there. However, for my trip last May I wanted to try something different, so got a preferred room at AS Sports. I was very pleasantly surprised with the All Stars.

For my trip this Dec I had booked POP again, but was unable to keep it with the VISA code and had to switch to AS Sports. AS Music was available and now I'm wondering if I should switch to there:confused3 ?

Thank you, Thank you OP.

We are arriving in 9 days at ASMu and having stayed at POP and CSR I was worried about whether we will like it here. I love your review.:cool1: :cool1:
