Minnie Van Question

Not sure if anyone can answer these, but thinking ahead to our trip in August, what has been people's experience using the Minnie vans? We're traveling with a group of 10, 4 of whom need car seats, so we know that we'd need 2 Minnie Vans in order to make it work.

1. What are the odds of getting 2 of them around the same time?
2. How long have people had to wait for Minnie vans to arrive once they've requested one?
3. Has there been decent availability for early morning trips? Say to get to 8:00 or 8:30 ADRs?
3. How long would it take to travel by Minnie van from Kidani Village to Boardwalk?
4. How long would it take to travel by Minnie van from Kidani Village to DHS?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, it's hard to predict in advance your odds of getting two at a time, or how long they'll take to come. They DO run in the mornings, though.

For these questions:

4. How long would it take to travel by Minnie van from Kidani Village to Boardwalk?
5. How long would it take to travel by Minnie van from Kidani Village to DHS?

Google Maps can give you a general estimate – though Minnie Vans do have the ability to utilize backstage roads that are off-limits to general traffic, shaving a few minutes off.

I would develop a Plan B.

When you are trying to herd a group of that size, with the safety requirements you have...a) it's impossible to predict what kind of success you might have, and b) there is probably a better way.

I see two viable options -- assuming you are staying onsite.
  • One is simply to take the buses.
  • The other is to let the group break up into its component families and have them get where they are going the best way they can.
    • Let one group Minnie Van one trip, another group MV the next trip.
The other consideration is that trying to keep 10 people, with 4 kids <6, together and moving efficiently through theme parks is going to be MUCH worse than herding cats. Most experienced Disney visitors don't even attempt that. Let everyone have their own vacation, and get together for dinners and special events. It's too crazy otherwise.

  1. Get a sheet of flexible but stiff colored plastic.
  2. Cut out 2 triangles, about 10" long by 6" wide.
  3. Think up a cute name and write it on the plastic triangles with permanent marker.
  4. Staple each triangle to a piece of wooden dowel.
  5. Walk thru the parks with one person leading and one person trailing, each holding one of the triangles over their head.
Note: if any one questions you, pretend you don't speak English. :)

(Just kidding ... Security would probably confiscate your dowels as weapons.)

I would have suggested about 50 feet of yellow nylon rope to tie everyone together -- except I was afraid someone would actually DO IT!
