in order to activate this service without going to the front desk I read it can be done on the MDE app. Do you have to be at Disney to activate this service or can I activate before I leave?

I know the drivers show up in the area that you are in, but I'm confused about activating the minnie van service itself. Can this be done before getting to DW via the Disney app?

No.

No, again, it is only available once you reach WDW so it will only activate once you are at WDW. It wouldn't make any sense to activate it when you are away from WDW.
And once activated, the service option disappears from your app when you leave WDW property. It won't reappear until you are on property again.
Everything about MDE/Lyft and Minnie Van activation is done by your GPS seeing that you are at WDW

Ok I understand now, I was thinking I had to activate the minnievan option on my phone manually... makes sense that it will appear as an option automatically!

No. You must use the Lyft app. And pay through the Lyft app as you would for any Lyft ride

You don't need to activate anymore. It will just show up as a vehicle option on Lyft when you're on property.

last week, the first time I opened the Disney app once on property a popup asked if I wanted to install/activate what was needed for MINIvan

once I saw $25 per ride I decided .... NO.

FYI - If you need a car seat, this is actually a decent price. Uber+ with car seat is going to run you just about this much, or more

If you have no need for a car seat, then yeah, Minnie Van is an indulgence

For people that plan things too close and have a lot of people, the Minnie Van service might be worth compared to Lyft / Uber XL
