My DD's (16 and 14) and I just decided last night to participate in the Minnie Marathon in May 2007.

I would love to get to know others who are planning on participating as well. I have never done anything like this and I'm kinda nervous. I just started running, but walk 5-7 miles a day. Any tips or suggestions on training for a 10K run would be appreciated.

So - if you are participating - please check in and we can support one another as we go.

I've registered for the 5K. I walked it in May06 (my first). It was very exciting, with Minnie cheering us on, and it felt great! It was only a 5K, but for me, it was a huge accomplishment. I am going to improve my time in 2007! :thumbsup2

Are you running the 5K or 15K? :cheer2:

MdmMim - My DD's want to do the 15K run, but they are cross country runners and typically run that far during their training. Me on the other hand, would prefer to do the 5K. I have printed off Hal Hogdon's training program for a 15K run for beginners and started yesterday. I think it would be so neat to run through the parks with my DD's. I'm gonna see how I do with the training program.

I wish you success! :thumbsup2 I think it would be great if you could run with your DD's. In the 5K last year, I ended up walking with a woman whose DD and DGD were also in the race. I thought it was so neat to have 3 generations together.

Good luck with your training! You've got lots of time to get prepared! :cheer2:

I will be there with DD(11)...I went last year, and promised her that she could do it when she turned 11, so she is so excited that they are having it again next year!!!

Anyone know the actual date?

I will be limited to registering for the 5K.

At 6-8 weeks post-partum..that will be the best I can manage. :teeth:

The dates are May 4th - 7th, 2007...at least that is what it says on AnthonyTravel.com

Glad to see everyone...

Disneyfanz04 are you and DD doing the 5k or the 15K?

Lisa loves Pooh - the 5k run is schedueld for Saturday, May 5th and the 15k is on Sunday, May 6th. Congrats on your upcoming new arrival.

I drove 9.3 miles today and I'm totally doubting that I will be able to run that far. I'm reconsidering - the 5k is looking more like my speed - that I know I can do :woohoo:

We are doing the 15K...you can do it!!! If I can, then anyone can...lol...Can't wait!!!

Hello all,

I'm officially registered for the 2007 Minnie :cheer2: I was registered for the 2006 Minnie but my scheduled TDY to Las Vegas cancelled my trip. Uncle Sam and the Air Force come first. Anyway, I'm excited about the 2007 Minnie, so I definitley cannot wait to see many of you there. Good luck with your training. May will be here faster than we know it.

Hi Kimickey - glad to see you join us. Sounds like you are a seasoned runner - any tips for us new runners training for a 15K?

This is my 1st week training. I have started with a 2 mile run, 3xs a week and I cross train with a 5-6 mile walking program on the other days. I am really enjoying the running.

How is everyone else doing with their training??

Tammy

Can I join in.

I will be doing this either alone or with DD that hasn't been decided yet.

I would like to do the 15K. I have just started to increase my distance walking but once I get back from vacation in 2 weeks I will start some serious training.

Hope to get to know you all better before May.

Kim

Looks like it will be me and DD I am excited to do this with her. She is 14 I believe I read back that there is a few other girls her age so this will be exciting for both of us.

Hope to chat with you all soon.

Kim

Hi girls, just wanted to stop in and say "hi!" I just recently started running/walking. It has been a slow start (literally, lol), but I am hoping to pick up the pace by May and do the 5K. The only problem is raising the funds to actually get to Florida to participate! I am going to talk to my sister this week when we visit her, and see if she would run it with me; it would be the first 5K for both of us.

Hello! I'm new to the WISH board and didn't see the "Events" sub-board. Thanks, Hockeychic, for pointing me at it. I'm on the fence but I think I will probably do this race (the 15K). The reason I'm on the fence is that I want to make a trip to Orlando in February or March and feel a little silly making the cross country trip twice in 2-3 months.

I did a half marathon a year ago so I know I can do this one, but I've gained some weight since then (mostly because I got plantar fasciitis from over training for that run and spent the following months after that limping and got out of my exercise habit).

None of my friends run so I'm training on my own.

My DD 11 and I and a friend are going to do the 5K. I thought about doing the 5K and 15K, but I'm not sure if it would be too much for me. It will be my first event ever and I'm so excited!

Great to see everyone signing on for the Minnie! Please feel free to jump into the WISH walking/running club weekly threads. We've all got marathon fever right now, but give us a couple weeks and we'll get over it :thumbsup2 . There's several of us that will be doing the Minnie again this year.

After 2 (almost 3 :goodvibes ) half marathons, I've found I really like doing the 15K distance. It's far enough to be challenging, but not so far that it seems like too much. I've noticed in both previous halves and in training for this one, after about 10 miles, I get tired. The 15K is perfect since I never get that far!

I've done nearly all of my training alone except for the folks I check in with here. How's your plantar fasciitis? I just got orthotics...I haven't been able to get rid of the problem so I'm hoping this is the magic cure :wizard:

The fasciitis was a result of a torn tendon in my leg. I ran 3.5 miles yesterday and 4.5 today and the fascia didn't bother me (it hasn't for several months), but my leg is kind of twingy. I'm going to schedule a massage for it which helps a lot.

I'm so jealous of the marathon people. I haven't gotten my act together enough to run one yet. Maybe next year :)
