Minnie Got a Makeover. Thoughts?

Apparently Minnie got a makeover. From what the article says the new look will only be seen at the Paris resort. I am not a fan. Frankly, I think it looks like something Laura Bush would wear.

Any other thoughts?

I used to live in west Texas where Laura Bush is from.

That sequins stuff was very popular in that area when I lived there, especially with the older generation (thought it was ugly then and looks even more hideous now).

2001 Inauguration Ball gown. Not an exact match but I can see too many similarities for comfort.

As they say on Project Runway, that is just a "hot mess."

Wonder what Tim Gunn would have to say about that.

"Gone was the oversized hair bow that has been the signature of the character since she was created in 1928."

I thought she had a little hat with a flower in the early days.

it's pretty awful. i agree that it makes her look pregnant.

i think it says a lot that her classic costume, which is however many years old, looks lightyears better than this "modern" dress.

it isn't that i'm angry that they are putting her in something new. i just think that "something new" is pretty horrendous.

Total disaster! :headache:

What on earth would Walt think?! Leave his precious 2nd in command alone!

Definitely no. ***. ?!?!

All due respect, but I don't think the posters on the DIS are exactly the audience that the designer was going for. ;)

That said ... the dress looks a LOT better under the fashion show lights than it does in the photo in this article. So if you Google "minnie paris fashion show" and take a look at it from that POV, you may like it better.

Also ... it's a tiara, not a hat -- looks different at the photo angle. Actually, IMO, it's not the dress that's horrible, it's the picture.

The full fashion show also has some interesting interpretations of Disney stories. My favorite is the Peter Pan-inspired hat and the first Cinderella look. Lots of fun but, as is true of much fashion-show fashion ... totally impractical!

:earsboy:

I can't decide whether she is dressed as an 80 or 90 year old Great Grandmother, or as a witch for Halloween. I think my Grandma (who lived to be almost 101) might have worn that dress when she was in her 90s- and would have looked quite nice in it- but Grandma would have had enough fashion sense to lose the hat.

I don't think we are resistant to change...I think it is just UGLY. I like some of Minnie's other outfits, like when she dresses up as Aviator Minnie or wears her Pink Princess costume at DL or has her Safari or Christmas outfits on at AK. I even think her new pink dress at MK is kind of cute (although the lighting in that photo area is awful and it is hard to get decent pictures either from photopass or on your own), although I'm not happy that she no longer appears anywhere at MK in her red polka dot dress. The dress in the article is just WRONG.

Sorry WDsearcher- love ya, but it's still totally something my Grandma would have worn in her 90s- minus the goofy hat/tiara and the rap star "love" necklace and what appears to be an apple applique or necklace:

The "Cinderella" inspired design cracks me up. I do like the Cinderella and Alice gowns, and the Malecifent look, and the Peter Pan hat is fun (although it definitely would get some strange looks around the neighborhood).

As they say on Project Runway, that is just a "hot mess."

Wonder what Tim Gunn would have to say about that.

Tim Gunn would be completely verklempt (and not in a good way). Definite thumbs down! :sad2:

Sorry, WDSearcher- I just looked at a bunch of different photos when I Googled it, and I have to agree that this is, indeed, a hot mess. Tim Gunn won't sleep for a week once he sees this. My mother (bless her bedazzled heart) wouldn't be caught dead in that thing. And I can't decide what that thing on her head reminds me of. Maybe a rhinestoned raspberry?

I find it humerous that the article is making it out like Minnie only wears polka dots and a big bow. Have they seen her closet. I just got off a one week cruise with Minnie. I only saw her in polka dots once. She had a different dress every day (at least one) and I only remember a bow with 2 of them. I think my favorite was her Disney Fantasy Peacock Inspired Flapper Dress.
