Minne Marathon Team List

Scott - thanks for reminder to have fun. I did the AK 5K in Jan and am really looking forward to this being even more fun not only for it being my first 15K but also experiencing it with all my new WISH friends!!

Updated!!

monte/Monica, you may just get your wish!! Minnie has never reached full capacity before, so if it does, the powers that be may rethink changing it. :goodvibes

Thanks! Funny, I didn't notice the sign for marathon weekend - talk about being nervous :rotfl: that sign can't get any bigger! :lmao:

how many runners/walkers does the Minnie have?

Robert may have a definite answer, but in 2007 there were 1992 15k finishers and 1108 5k finishers. In 2006 there were 1453 15k finishers.

I'd estimate then 2000-2500 for the 15k and 1000-1500 for the 5k

lol Stacey. For our fisrts amrathon, DH dfoes not remeber teh choir sining and swore teh chipmunks weren't at the finish. We have a pic where he slapped on of their hands. :rotfl2:

I think Minnie is 3,00 to 5,000. :confused3 Sadly, I don't think it filling up now woudl be enough. they are used to their races filing up months in advance. I will miss the 15K. I like the half, but I those are too intimidating fro beginners. being less than 10 miiles doesn't sound as bad.

I am assuming that there are not corrals for the Minnie???? I don't remember putting in a finishing time when I registered.

Nope, just colored flags. If you are sub 9 mpm, stand by this color. I think there were 4 groups, ending with 12 to 15. DOn't egt me started on how the dj annouced that group last year.

Carrie - Yah I remember the posts about that. I will kick her butt as I run by if she does it again!!! pirate:

What did she say about that group???

Oh and since it's only 20 days out, think we should start a separate thread for those need rides to each race? We'll have a car so more than happy to help out others.

Oh, i am dying to know what the DJ said too!!! LOL

I too am wishing somehow that i had the guts to do the 15k, but being that i am totally new to all this, and never did any race before,i think just finishing the 5k with a great time is good enough.. But, part of me wants that Minnie medal SOOO bad.. :( LOL But, i have never done more than 4 miles before.. and with it only being 2+ weeks away, i don't want to push it..
Hopefully, i can do the Princess or whatever it turns out to be next may!!

Caitsmama/Stacey, You are very wise to NOT get caught up in all of this hoopla right now. As athletes (and we ALL are now!!), we must respect the distance. 15K = 9.3 miles. That's a lot when you are just starting. Heck, that's a lot ANYTIME! The other big deal for a few of us is the 15 minute/mile pace requirement. The excitement of the event will carry you a little, but training is what is going to get that medal.

These distances are about endurance. To do them without injury, you have got to get a mileage base in where your body isn't shocked when you ask it to do 9.3 miles, or 13.2, or whatever. There will be lots of races in your future when you don't rush the training process.

I'll be there in my WISH shirt cheering your accomplishment on Saturday morning!!!! :cheer2: Anne

Thanks so much Anne!! I don't have a green wish shirt, but i will find a way to sport something on me somewhere that is lime green! LOL I have my outfit already packed, and none of it is lime.. maybe for the next may one.. But, i will try to get one of those LGMH chips and pin it to my shirt or something! LOL

And my sis is doing the 15k, so i guess i can always admire her medal. ;)

I love your green shirts and that it sends such a great message of fellowship and helping one another to achieve great things.

But I will be wearing a pink shirt with a black skirt with attached pink compression shorts and a pink polka dotted hair bow in honor of minnie.:lovestruc

My DD asked what I would be doing after the race ( not right after, but long term) As in are you into this sport for the long haul. I told him I would wait and see, but that all you beautiful green shirt people said once you race it becomes addictive.

Just PUHLEEZE say hello to the WISH shirt people, in the parking lot or on the course. Just make sure you say, "Hi! I'm (insert screen name here)." It is so funny at meets when someone comes up and introduces themselves, and receives all these blank looks. Then they say their scrren name and the place explodes with greetings and laughter!! :cool1:

Joan, that's so neat that you are going Minnie! ::MinnieMo You'll have lots of company. You are part of the entertainment! ;) That's one of the things to do..look at all of the outfits on the road. In my 2006 report, I mentioned how there was a group that had mouse tails attached to their outfits!! Sadly, yes, it does become addictive!! Sadly, for the $$ we spend to participate in this free sport!! :rotfl:

Liz, only 20 days out!!! :scared1: That sounds so much closer than less than 3 weeks. Go ahead, start a transportation thread!! :)

Maherea-I think I will print out the screen names with real names list that you have posted on the first page of this thread. I can study them on my flight down.:thumbsup2

I have looked at the photos on the disneyrunning sight. I love the gals in the Minnie mouse outfits all the way down to their yellow shoes.

Now, I wasn't there last year, and maybe I shouldn't fan this particular flame, but I remember reading about her comments and felt outraged, even not being there. As I recall, she commented on being surprised that there were people doing the race who didn't look so fit....something along those lines, and obviously just completely thoughtless and uncalled for.

HOPEFULLY nothing similar will be said this year, but if it is, I think we need a plan of action. Rush the stage or a loud chorus of Boos or something.

Stacy, for what it's worth, I think that Maherae has got it right - gotta respect the distance. It's not about guts - as you know, it's about training and building your mileage in a solid, safe way so you can enjoy the training and the event. You have plenty of time - just get ready to savor and enjoy your first exciting race experience! And don't worry about not having any green - it will just mean that its incumbent on YOU to introduce yourself to WISHers who are wearing "the colors." Those colors are hard to miss. :rolleyes1

Another question for all the veterans:

I am doing the *mighty* 5k (like that Anne? -LOL!).

Is there any reason to make a special trip to WWS on Friday to pick up my packet, or should I just pick it up the morning of the 5k in the parking lot?
