Caitsmama and SamSam: Good luck to both of you!! I can remember my first event/race was the 2007 WDW Half. I read up and felt very prepared, but the night before I don't think I slept at all!! I was nervous about what it was going to be like, would I make it, getting enough fluids, trying to see the parks, trying to enjoy myself. That morning I was up and out the door and at the prep. I remember using the POPotties about 4 times, most was nerves, but I didn't want to have to stop to use a Popotty- I wanted to stay moving and not be swept up!! My goal for that first Half was not to be swept and not be that one person right in front of the van/bus. I went to the Half by myself, but quickly found others that were just as nervous and some who had done it before. I started to calm alittle bit. I am a walker and was happy to find others like myself in the back corral and we were calling ourselves the "Slow Pokes". When I finally made it to the start line, my energy was very high and at Mile 2 I was WAY faster than my normal pace and had to slow down a bit or I thought I would never make it. You will make it and you just have to keep that in mind! Plus you will have others to help and encourage you along the way.
It will all be worth it when you cross the finish line.
After that first event, it got me started on other things, I did 4 5ks after that, then another WDW Half, then 2 other Half Marathons within 6 weeks after that WDW Half. I have more coming up, it will just be the start of something that will keep you moving!! Isn't that all what its about - just keep moving.
It's a nice 67 degrees right now in South Florida, getting ready to start my training for the Minnie 15K which I will do on Sunday after my 5K on Saturday in Pompano Beach tomorrow!!
Have a Great DAY everyone!!
