I am starting on a project for a miniture house. A doll house for example, but without the dolls. This house is going to have two floors. Foyer.Living Room. Kicthen. Three bed rooms and a pet room. I'd would love to get some feedback and some ideas that I can use. Mabye list any materials that are cool too. Oh yes the bedrooms will be disney themed.

I will post many pictures up once I am done with the project ^ ^

Theings to use depends on how much money you want to spend, how big it's going to be (what is the scale) and whether or not you want it to be realistic or somewhat stylized. You can do a lot with things that would normally be thrown away (like spray can tops, small boxes, mirrors from compacts). Pieces of felt make good carpet, wrapping paper is good wallpaper and contact paper makes good floor or bathroom wall tile. There is some colored foam that comes in thin sheets that make good flooring or shingles (if you cut it into pieces).

My mom used to make shadow boxes that were like dollhouse rooms. I do remember her using colored clay to make food and scraps of upholstery fabric for furniture.

Wow neat. I'll think of those ideas. Hmm, I should use felt. I want it to be realistic as possible, but at a cheap price. I might have to scavage my dump and places ^ ^ Thanks for the ideas. ::MickeyMo

My Grandma would have a fun time with this becuase she can make me little carpets ^ ^

When I was little dad and I built one. We used those plastic placemats for flooring in the bathroom and kitchen. We used very small print wallpaper scraps for the walls.

My sister and I used to make houses all the time (and we always had a big box of "stuff that might come in handy.") Some other ideas:
  • sponges can be made into chairs and couches by cutting them into shapes and then gluing the shapes together. They can be covered with material for upholstery
  • look in the quilting material area of a craft store for material. A lot of times, they sell somthing called "fat quarters", meant for quilting, but just about the right amount of material for a doll house
  • bottle caps can be pie pans
  • if you want oriental or patterned rugs, use felt tip pens to draw designs on felt (check out how much much it runs on a scrap)
  • tongue depressors and popscicle sticks make good building materials. You can buy big boxes at craft shops
  • Cut a toothpick in half, dip it in some melted wax (hold it with a tweezer) and you will have some candles
