I saw on the website that depending how many people you have come to the wedding will determine the number of room nights you have to guarantee. My family and my bf family have DVC and may want to use the points to get say three 3 bedroom villas instead of 9 studios. So if they stay 3 days onsite in the villas that's only a total of 9 days where as if they get the studios thats 27 days. My question is do they take into account when someone uses DVC to determine if they would count it as more days since more people are staying in one type of room? And what happens if you can't guarantee the minimum number of nights? Thanks!! hope that makes sense.

Let me try to see if I can answer this question...dvc rooms do count but they count the same...it doesn't matter how many ppl are staying in the room...

listen to this podcast it talks about your question in the first minute

The room-night guarantee applies only to Wishes events, plus those Escape events that request a room block be set up.

There is no weighting of DVC room nights—either you'll have 9 nights counted b/c everyone stayed in a few 3-bedroom villas or you'll have 27 nights counted b/c everyone stayed in studios.

However, Disney is currently accepting as few as 10 room nights to fulfill the requirement, so you should have no problem meeting it. The only reason you'd need more is if you want to qualify for a free room night for the bride & groom (which requires that you fill 25 room nights).

ohhh is the 25 only if you want a free room???? Well that's ok then. i don't think i will have a problem reaching the minimum as long as i don't go over the 40 mark

does anything happen if you don't meet the requirement? do you have to pay the extra nights?

It depends on what is in your contract. For instance, in my contract I blocked out 45 room nights, and it says that if those nights are not filled by 30 days before the wedding, then those rooms will be released back to the public and I will be charged a "penalty" (they word it differently in the contract). HOWEVER, it is also written that I can reduce the room nights by 60 days out and will NOT be charged a penalty. I also have heard that they are no longer requiring a room block for Wishes weddings, but only requiring 10 nights if you want the wedding discount or 25 nights if you want a free night. You don't actually have to do the room block for a Wishes wedding if you don't want to. HTH!

Ok this is where I'm a bit confused. I know they're accepting as little as 10 nights. As of now DF and I are going to be honeymooning there so it'll be about 12 nights. However I'm iffy about anyone else staying. So far people are not 100% sure if they're even going to stay in the resorts. What would happen if I just block my honeymoon time and than later on I find out some of my family wants to stay at the resorts. Is it to late to add them? I'm scared of setting aside more rooms or nights and than get stuck paying for them because my family decided not to take it.

Also, remember to talk to your planner or sales consultant if you think you can't meet the 10 or 25 nights, because I had my requirement waived. My family was coming from Miami and were only coming in for the day before the wedding and the wedding day so I knew I wasn't going to meet the night requirement. Also, a lot of family was stayibg offsite in their timeshare. I explained this to my sales person and she told me it was not a problem that she would just omit the room requirement.

You can block 20% more rooms than you are required to fill (guarantee) and have no penalty if they aren't filled. So if you tell Disney that you want to guarantee 12 nights for your honeymoon, you can actually block 15 nights and there will be no penalty if they aren't filled.

If people decide later that they want to come and there aren't enough room nights in your block, you can add the nights if they are available and you're more than 30 days out (I'd go with 60 days out just to be on the safe side), but it will increase the number you must guarantee will be filled.

If people decide at the last minute that they want to come and there's no room in your block, they will have to take their chances with making their own Disney reservation (which will still count toward your requirement). But there are so many resorts at Disney, not to mention all the off-site options, they're bound to find something even if you don't have any rooms for them left in your block.

They are also adding a new clause into the contracts where you drop your room nights to 25 rooms at the 90 day mark. So basically (as my wedding planner told me), you can guarantee any amount of nights reasonable to your party, and then at the 90 day mark drop them.

This was helpful to me, as I live in the Tampa Bay area and have no idea whether or not people are going to book rooms at Disney.

I know that its all confusing, but just keep asking your planner questions!!!
