can anyone tell me the minimum points you need purchase to have a property become one of your home property's? Was thinking of buying resale at SSR (seems to be the least expensive) but would like BLT as a home resort as well. (would have to buy direct from disney, more expensive)

am I right in my thinking that this is the way to go?

we normally stay at the poly so i think we would like BLT better than SSR. location, location, location! for us anyways!

thanks!

probably not. if you buy 25 BLT pts and 200 SSR pts, you can still only book BLT at 11 months with the pts from the BLT contract. if BLT still has availability at 7 months, you can book that with your SSR pts.

just so im clear - I need to have the right available points for that resort to book 11 months ahead?

yes, the 11 month booking window ("home resort advantage") is tied to the actual points used for the reservation rather that general ownership of certain resorts.

if you want to book BLT at 11 months out, you need BLT points. they can be banked BLT pts, borrowed BLT pts, current BLT pts or even BLT pts that you have transferred to you from a BLT owner...but they have to be tied to that specific resort.

some people will buy a small contract (say for 25 pts) at a certain resort just to get the home resort advantage for that resort...then they will bank and borrow pts to get a total of 75 pts for booking that resort at 11 months out. the downside is that they can only do that every 3rd year.

but if you own BLT and SSR, both resorts would be considered your "home resorts" and you would get the 11 month window at both resorts...but only for the points you actually own at each resort. (at 11 months out, you can book SSR with SSR pts and BLT with BLT pts...then later at 7 months, you can pool the pts together to book whichever resort is available.)

We did resale then add on -- 100 SSR points resale and a then BLT add on of 100 points. I knew that adding on 25 or 50 BLT points would not go far and the incentives were better at the 100+ point add on. If you are doing two home resorts though be sure to take the use year into consideration. Most prefer to have the same UY for all contracts.

If you are purchasing direct through Disney, the minimum number of points you can initially purchase at a home resort is currently 160. However, there are often special promotions which allow you to purchase a minimum of 100 points at certain resorts.

If you are "adding on" to an existing contract, again through Disney, the current minimum number of points that can be purchased is 25.

Now, the tricky part. If you are purchasing via the RESALE market, you can purchase as few as 25 points at any resort and it would be considered your home resort. Since contracts cannot be sold in increments, this generally means that a current member is selling off their add-on purchase...which in turn becomes your home resort for less than the Disney-required minimum purchase.
