We are thinking of buying my son some points for a wedding present. Will he have to pass ROFR if we give them to him as a gift? Do you think will will have to purchase 150 points to start or could we purchase 50-75? We own 150 points at VWL. Should I just call member services and talk to them? Thanks so much!

The question that is a little different here is the purchase for someone else. I am not sure if you are purchasing FOR someone else if you would need the minimum or just the add on. I suspect if it is to be in their name, you might need 150 unless you go the resale route.

I believe with resale (non-Disney) you can buy whatever you want or can find. I've seen 25 point contracts for resale. One think to consider is that resale closing cost are about the same if you purchase 50 points or 250 points- so closing will consederable increase the net point cost of a small contract.

If you purchase his points on the resale market that could be 25 points or more. The purchase will have to go through ROFR just like all resale purchases.

If you purchase through DVC, in order for his name to be on the contract, you would have to buy him his own 150 point contract or add him to your original deed which would require closing again.

Add-on means just that. It's an addition to your original contract and must be set up the same as your original. Any changes requires a new contract or at minimum, a change in the deed and more closing costs for your original contract.

Add-ons thru DVC can be as small as 25 points if paying cash and 50 points or more if you want to finance thru DVC.

The only way you can add-on a smaller amount to your VWL contract, is for you to do the add-on and add him as an associate member on the add-on. Associate Members do not receive Membership cards and are not financially responsible but may make ressies and bank and borrow.

HTH!

One other thing. You can buy 50 points resale and then add-on through Disney for less than 150 total. We bought 50 points resale at VWL and then added on 30 at BWV through Disney.

One of my brother in laws gave his wife a cell phone one christmas. He got it for free with a 2 year contract- only his wife now had a monthly bill for 2 years with a cancellation penalty. She was a little upset.

I assume you are certain the giftee wants a DVC membership and understands the yearly fees.
