Minimum Age for Segway Tour @ EPCOT

I just recently did the Segway Tour @ EPCOT for the first time and really enjoyed it. Next October I'm taking my nephew for his 16th birthday and I know he would really enjoy the Segway. The minimum age is 16.

Here's the problem:

I'm taking my nephew Oct 6-13th but he won't actually be 16 until November 14th.

Does anyone know how strict the Segway people will be about the minimum age requirement?

I wanted to take my daughter, who will be 16 one month after. I asked them about it, and they said they will check ID's, and they MUST be 16. I wouldn't count on it, if I were you. We were pretty disappointed! Maybe you should extend your trip by a day, and go on his 16th birthday!

Unfortunately we're not off by a day, we're off by a month, but thanks for suggestion.

Oops! Sorry...I misread! Well, I know for a fact that they told me no, when I said my daughter would be a month shy of 16. We are going on the trailride instead, while my husband and sons do the Segways. :sad2:

We took my niece, who was a few months past 16. We were told she would need proof of her age. She had her license and they looked it over VERY carefully. Besides that, one of her parents had to be present to sign the permission/release slip.

So for a child under the age of 18 to participate in the Segway Tour, the child's parent HAS to be there? So if the child's parent is not on the trip, then the child can't participate even if the child was 16?

KyleRayner ~ DS (16), DS's friend (also 16) and myself did the 2 hour Segway tour last March. They looked at each boy's ID very carefully to confirm that they were both 16 :thumbsup2 . I had to sign waivers for both of them. I had a notarized temporary guardianship form for DS's friend, but I was not asked for it. DS often brings a friend on vacation and I always have a temporary guardianship/consent for medical treatment form for his friend. Thank goodness I have never needed the form, but just in case.... :confused3 .

I would assume that the child's parent or legal guardian must sign the legal waiver for the child to ride. My dad always had to do this when we rode the water mice until I turned 18. Children cannot enter into legal contracts, so the parent must sign on their behalf.

We saw them turn a kid away this past September who was 'not quite' 16 y/o. Both parents were going on the tour and argued that they'd be responsible and that they had already paid their money. It got nasty for just a little while. This was a big kid too (around 6 ft and 180 lbs.). From what we heard he was three weeks shy of his sixteenth birthday.

16 is the age, also don't know how hot it is in october, but bring water with you on the segway tour, I passed out on the segway tour from dehydration, so just a little tip! :-)

Not sure how flexible you are with your plans. My son (who is 13) LOVES the Segways and he was bummed to have to wait until he turned 16. I looked around (helps to live close though), and I found a great SEGWAY tour option on Sanibel Island. It's Billy's Tours, and they offer this at 13 and up. If you are wanting some beach time in addition to park time, then it's an option for you. I will warn you that Sanibel is probably 3 1/2 hours from WDW though. It's 2 1/2 from my house, and I'm an hour west of WDW.

Thanks for the tip. We won't make to Sanibel on this trip, but I do go out to Sanibel/Captiva area from time to time and it's good to know that they have a Segway tour available there.

That's what wwe were told when we made the reservation. in our case, both of her parents were on the tour. We were told if one of them was not going, they would have to come into the park and sign the waiver. She started to fill out the papers and they asked which of the people in our group were her parent(s). Then they asked my brother in law if he was her father before he started filling out the papers.

I see someone else posted that they took a friend of their child and were not asked for the notarized temporary guardianship paper. As closely as we were asked on our tour, I don't think that would have happened.
