There are two courses next to Blizzard Beach and we enjoyed the winter one. Hoping to play the summer one this year. You can use the Disney transport to get there.
My two sons who were 16 and 14 the first time they played it, loved feeding the alligators afterwards. I thought it was a bit dodgy for the old gators though because you are not meant to feed the wild ones due to them then associating humans with food. However, I suppose those little critters end up as burgers.
We love Pirates cove at the Crossroads - you could get the bus to DTD and have a pleasant walk past the DTD hotels (nice as its quite shaded as several large trees) and there are several good chain restaurants up at the Crossroads too (TGI Fridays, Olive garden & my personal favourite the Red Lobster to name but a few!!) - I think it would make for a really nice afternoon/evening - and a bit of a change as well!!! (IMHO anyway!!!)
I love Pirates Cove as well but for onsite I would go for Winter / Summerland or Fantasia Gardens.
I prefer Winter / Summerland but that's because I found the holes a bit easier to play than Fantastia Gardens, and when you reduce the skill level required it means I am less likely to lose
My DDs (ages 9 & 6) much preferred Winter / Summerland to FG and there are loads of brilliant photo opportunities
