If you're Canadian and have a Costco membership I just tried your dates and a minivan with Budget is coming up for $212 tax and fees in. This is through the Costco site and you have to put your membership number in to reserve. Tried the US Costco and it was over $700. What a crazy game we all have to play to get a good price.

Sharing this from the minivan thread...

I was able to book a minivan through budget dec 6-19 2 weeks for $437.92 which is $218.96 per week. Got to be happy about that! Saved $60.00 off my current booking with alamo! I don't think I will get it that much lower...

We booked with Coscto in Aug, we paid under $900 for 2 weeks. Everywhere else was charging me $1500 - $1700 :scared1:

It was with Avis. They did ask me for my Costco card when I picked it up so remember to bring that with you.

We have gold visa card and I read through the insurance coverage for rental cars and was really surprised that it does not cover mini vans.

So before you decline insurance, make sure you have coverage through your credit card.

I rented through Costco last December for our commute from MCO to Port Canaveral. even prepaid ahead of time so check in at the counter was a lot quicker. By the way we had a Camery. But Costco = deal and allowed me to prepay. Check prices and different times. We saved maybe 10 dollars but our rental was only 24 hours

Wow, I wish I had stumbled across this topic earlier. We head to Orlando several times a year and while I'm always careful to get the best car rental deal via Expedia or Hotwire, I didn't even consider the Costco option. After coming across this thread I went to the Costco site. I had pre-booked a car for my upcoming October visit, a pretty good deal with Budget for $166 Cnd, considering every other in terminal agency was currently asking $280-440. Using my Costco card I got an intermediate car (the$166 deal was for a compact), for $109 USD, also with Budget. And you don't prepay! Needless to say I cancelled and went with Costco. Costco also covers 2 drivers at no extra charge, excellent.

Thanks for posting this! I was going to use airmiles to book but this is a better deal!

Just booked a mini van for March, 9 days = $517 - with a car seat :woohoo: (via the US Costco website) The Canadian Costco website wanted $855 + carseat

My Infinite Visa covers mini vans and I think the gold does too. It doesn't cover mini cargo vans but does the 7/8 passenger minivans like Dodge Caravan.
From my book: The following vehicles are excluded from coverage under this Policy: vans, cargo vans or mini cargo vans ( other than Mini-Vans)
And in the definitions of a mini-van there is a list including: Dodge Caravan, Honda Odyssey, Toyota sienna, Nissan Quest etc.

From the Visa website: Vehicles covered

The Visa Collision Loss/Damage Insurance program covers all standard rental automobiles likely to be rented by a traveler. It also covers:

Mini-vans, as defined by the manufacturer. This means a vehicle that transports up to 8 people, including the driver, and is exclusively for transporting passengers and their driver;
Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs).

Ouch....that was still really high!

We went in August as well. Our 2 weeks + 1 additional day rental was $497 Canadian through Hotwire.

Most personal auto policies also provide coverage for rental vehicles. Even if your credit card insurance doesnt extend to a mini van, your personal auto coverage should. Its worth a call to your broker before travelling to confirm.

I had to take what I could get, much better than $1,700
Think I waited too long to book

Just wanted to reaffirm this. Our regular State Farm policy covers us for rentals. It's worth a phone call to find out the particulars on your policy so you can decline the extra and often unnecessary insurance.

Morning All. .

Just an FYI -- you might want to check the Rental Car threads for your particular month of travel. I was on the November 2014 one and stumbled on a number of great options.

Currently I have a mini-van booked 11/22 - 12/6 (Pick up at DoubleTree in DTD and return to RSW) with Budget.

Costco code - W852802
40$ off 10+ Days - MUGZ025

Total is in at $370 USD with taxes.

Costco codes such as the one above can sometimes be combined with different coupon codes which are better than those being offered by Costco. And believe it or not sometimes going to the rental agency website using the exact same code that Costco provided will net a different .. often LOWER result.

FYI- Just checked my current rental again - if I were to book today it would be $385US all in.
