Warning, rant ahead....

I am so annoyed :furious:that age 9 is when Disney considers a child an adult on the dining plan. Our son doesn't want to eat adult food and won't finish his meal if he did order it. That is just a waste of food as far as I am concerned and further more a cash grab for the Disney company.

At other normal restaurants 12 years old would be the age when they are no longer a child. I think we will just pay OOP for our upcoming trip.

a plan for a child is 14 per day and for an adult 55 per day that's a big difference.

Rant done.... whew I feel better now. :)

Back to planning....:surfweb:

They are not considered an adult until 10. Not sure where you got 9 from. Maybe you want to take another look and see if the dining plan will work out after all.

PP is right--it is age 10 and up for the adult plan.

But your numbers are wrong. It's $58.66 for adults and right at $20 for kids for the DDP now.

Yeah it's just around $20, something like $18.88 I think.

Sent from my iPad using the DISBoards app.

duh... I meant 10. DS is 9 right now and will be 10 when we go. My pricing must be old, either way its not a good value anymore. I am sad. :-(

Why be sad? If it's not a good value, it's not a a good value. Would you spend money on anything else that you felt wasn't giving you the best return for your money?

And just to give you "the other side".... my 10 yr old DS would never be full with a kids' meal and especially a Disney kids' meal. He hasn't ordered off the kids' menu at a regular restaurant for over a year, because it just isn't enough food. So if the age was higher, I would not be able to feed him with the DDP as he would be required to order off the kids' menu. My options would be to pay to upgrade him or pay OOP.

You do have another option if you choose to get the DDP for your family. You can pay OOP for DS's meals and use his adult credits to enjoy more TS meals. Of course, buffets and all-you-can-eats will not work with this.

It's not 9, it's 10. 9 and younger still get the child plan.

And if it's not a good deal, maybe it's best not to get it, as it's not required to get a dining plan...unless you just like having it, many people do.

Same problem here. DD and DS are now both over 9 and the DDP no longer makes financial sense for us. We will pay OOP until their appetites are larger and their tastebuds are a little more evolved.

My take on the DDP age is :cheer2:
Both my kids have adult palates. They are not hot dog/mac n cheese people... never have been. So, I would rather pay the extra so I know they are eating what they like.

If you pay oop you can order anything you want for her. My kids couldn't wait to get away from those crappy cs kids meals (the ts meals were good). This past trip we split adult cs meals with dd9 most of the time and ended up with a couple of extra meals. She had kids meals at every TS restaurant except 50's Prime Time Cafe where she switched meals with ds12 because they had nothing he would eat. She turned 10 in December and will be a Disney "adult" next trip. We may still order and pay oop for her TS meals since she seems to like those and then we will have extra TS credits for extra meals or dinner show. CS will be all adult from now on.

That depends so much on the kid though, they have to make an age cutoff somewhere. Most local restaurants here say 10& under, so WDW isn't much different.

The kids meals haven't been nearly enough food for my DD10 for many years. Even at 4yo I thought they were small for her. And she would much rather have the adult selections anyway.

We have done the DP several times, but have finally decided to go without it next trip. We'll still eat the same way, but I'm pretty sure it will cost less. If theDP doesn't fit your needs, don't feel tied to it. We were huge fans of it for many years, but sometimes you have to admit when something just isn't going to work for you. Do what makes sense.

This comes up a lot, but I think Disney has the age about right. Their kids' meals are smaller portions and more limited selections than most real world restaurants, and the fact that we see roughly as many complaints about those meals not satisfying 8 & 9yos as we do about adult portions/prices for 10 & 11yos tells me that the current cutoff is the best they can do. They'll never satisfy everyone but the fact that the complaints aren't all from one side or the other means they're firmly on the middle ground.
