Mine Train v Big Thunder

Hello,
We are a family that we’re never big roller coaster fans, but we started doing the Mine Train as soon as it opened and is now our favorite attraction. Having said that we have never been on Big Thunder but we “braved” it and have FP+ for both next month. If I can get some ideas on how similar they are it would make me feel better. I read they basically travel at the same speed and feel pretty close. I guess the overall question is if we can handle the Mine Train (and love it) will Big Thunder be an issue? Thanks!

Big Thunder is bumpier than Mine Train, but if you like Mine Train I think you should try Big Thunder at least once. It is definitely a family coaster and not a thrill ride by any means. Worst case scenario you don’t like it and don’t have to ride it again! Have fun!!

The main difference is age. With all the computer simulations they can now design coasters that are more smooth.

Slinky Dog Dash is a much closer experience to Mine Train, so plan on experiencing it day and night

I never rode a roller coaster until I was an adult and I've eased into it. With that being said, I think you would enjoy Big Thunder if you enjoy the Mine Train. To make it a more tame ride, request to sit towards the front. Sitting in the back is fun but a little faster ride

BTMR is one of my favorite rides. It isn't as smooth as Mine Train, but it is definitely longer. Do it and maybe sit in the front or towards the front. We love the back because it pulls you more and you go faster.

Bingo! When in doubt, ride towards the front.

You should be fine. BTMRR has several lift hills, but none of them are tall. It has some small bunny hills where you can get a little airtime. The turns seems s little tighter in BTMRR. I wouldn't consider BTMRR to be a rough coaster, but 7DMT is smoother.

One thing's for sure. Your hips have a LOT more room to move on Big Thunder.

For a first time on BTMR asked to ride in one of the first few rows.
It's less intense and slower then ridding in the back. The front won't whip you around the turns and the drops won't henas fast as the back because you aren't being pulled in the front.

Big Thunder is fairly tame for Roller Coasters... probably just a step up from the Mine Train. The mine train is so smooth and nothing like any roller coaster i have ever rode.

My 17 year old daughter is the original cowardly lion and even she can handle Big Thunder and she loves 7 Dwarves.

I have some advice if you have smaller childern. My son who is 10 LOVES the hulk at Universal. 8 inversions, 65 mph, intense coaster. But big thunder scared the pants off of him. and we didn't know why. Well we figured out it's because he's terrified he will fly out. The restraint is simply a lap bar that sits loosely across your lap. Depending on your size it won't even be contacting you so you have a "floaty feel". As an adult you can use your logical brain and know that the coaster is designed a specific way and that you won't go flying out. If you could people would, and it would be news. But kids don't So to counteract this feeling, I simply wrap my arm as tight around him as possible, and hold him against me. Ever since we started doing this he loves it! As far as vs seven dwarves, it's more intense. Not a tonne, but it is. And not near as smooth. Oh, and one more thing. IT"S LOUD!!!! seven dwarves is smooth and quiet. This is very loud especially in the caves and on the lifts.

I hate roller coasters and I LOVE BTMRR. It's probably about the same speed as 7DMT, but there are no big drops (just "bumps") and lots of fast circles. I think if you can handle 7DMT, you can handle BTMRR.

Neither DW nor I are into roller coasters. But we both rode 7DMT a couple of years ago. It was exciting but we decided that once was enough. Just yesterday I rode BTMRR again after many years. I was reminded that BTMRR is certainly longer and just a bit rougher the 7DMT. And maybe just a bit faster in a couple of the turns. Or perhaps one of the turns was just longer.

If you love 7DMT then I believe that you will enjoy the longer BTMRR.

OP, you should definitely give it a try. It's fun.

BTMRR is our favorite. Our kids went for the first time when they were 6 and 8. If like 7DMT you can handle it. Have a blast!

I rode big thunder and space mountain when I was 9 years old by myself because nobody else would go with me. The following year, seeing that I survived the endeavor, my parents and brother joined me. they're all fun, and not very scary at all.

I'll be 43 in October and will probably ride them again next month. They're pretty tame as far as coasters are concerned, but they're still fun for me.

7DMT is a pretty sorry excuse for a ride, IMHO. But people sure seem to love it.

My 36 year old stepson (mentally handicapped) will uncompromisingly and willingly ride absolutely any ride on the face of the earth no matter what. Most recently we did a few huge coasters at cedar point. And we always do space mountain and rock n Rollercoaster. But... The slide at the beach club is too scary because "it might be dark in the tunnel".

I guess everybody has their limits!
