Min and Bill's Dockside Diner

I was at the Studios today and wondering what to do for lunch - always a ? - counter service. So I decided I'd check out Min and Bill's dockside diner as I had seen a couple of photos of the sandwiches here on the DIS and they looked a little different than the usual.

Well, I will say I was pleasantly surprised. I had the frankfurter in pretzel - really a pretzel dog with dijon mustard and it was really good. I appreciated the pretzel - soft pretzel, the dog seemed like it was foot long, and dijon mustard. Nothing really fancy but a little different than usual and better than I was expecting. Think I'll eat there again.

The menu is tiny - 3 sandwiches with chips is about it - but it was a pleasant surprise for me.

Here is my fun story about this place:

We were there in Dec 2010, and I had been waiting all day to get a cupcake at Starring Rolls which I had heard so much about. It was evening, and they had closed early, so I was sad.

I met up with my husband and the kids with him, and he was having a milkshake, which seemed like a tasty way to get over my disappointment. He pointed out Min & Bills, which was still open. I went over with my 10 year old DS.

When they got to us, they asked us what we wanted, and then proceeded to tell us they were closing, and we could have whatever we wanted, FOR FREE! I actually argued with them, because we had the DDP, and were using snack credits anyway, but they wouldn't let me. We had just wanted milkshakes, but another cast member stuck her head out and said, "Won't you please let us give you sandwiches too?" When we said no, she insisted that we at least take cookies as well. My 10 year old and I both thought it was the coolest thing ever!

And when we got back to the family spot, the others who hadn't gone, suddenly wished they had....

I kept hearing about this spot and decided to go there in May. I got the frankfurter in the pretzel roll with a chocolate shake. The milkshake was not that good - it tasted more like a mcdonald's milkshake that wasn't made from scratch (and had some weird aftertaste). The frankfurter was ok. They put mustard in it and used dijon mustard. I would have rather had it plain so I could put on yellow mustard or eat it without anything. I wasn't that impressed with the dog or the pretzel. The dog didn't have a good taste - more of a chopped up different meat with little seasoning taste. And the pretzel was not as pretzel tasting but more like a roll. I ended up taking a few bites of the dog and a few sips of the shake and tossed it.

I'm glad I tried something new because I'm always wondering if I'm really getting the best food by continuing to go back to the same places. And some of my 'new' items I did try, I ended up loving them.

It's all a matter of opinion though so what one person likes, another may not. If it sounds like it interests you - try it. I've certainly read a lot more positive reviews about the frankfurter pretzel dog. It just happens I wasn't one of them.

We ate here a few weeks ago. My youngest and I got the pretzel dogs and my oldest with my mom got the Chicken Caesar wrap (or something like that). It was great because it was so portable - and we just carried it into Fantasmic with us and ate while we people watched and waited for the show to start. We all liked what we ordered - and it was a first for us, too!

Thanks for the review. We have always walked right on by here and never thought to try it. Might have to change that next month. My daughter loves franks in pretzel rolls.

We had the pretzel dogs a few days ago and DS hated his because of the dijon mustard. Mine was good, I loved the pretzel roll but the hot dog was along the lines of Oscar Meyer type....it didn't really look like a red hot that I am used to in Chicago.

I've had the chicken Caesar sandwich from there, but I didn't enjoy it. I liked the idea, but I think they were pre-made earlier in the day, and by the time I got mine, the lettuce was soggy from all the dressing, and the croutons, which I didn't even find necessary, since there was already enough bread from the roll, where soggy and yucky too. Freshly made I think it would've been good.
