We are going to Milwaukee next month. I am trying to plan hotels. I would like to use Hotwire but am not sure where the Harley Museum is located. We would like to be close to it.

Anyone have any info for "area" that I want to look for?

Thanks!

I was just in Milwaukee for work a couple weeks ago and we stayed at the brand new Staybridge in Franklin. The hotel has only been open for about 5 months. It is an all suite hotel with a smaller pool and nice grounds. They had a complimentary breakfast with an egg dish, breakfast meat, waffles, fruit, cereal, etc. and weeknights they had a reception that was enough food for dinner (pizza one night, pasta the next when we were there). The rooms were large, had a nice kitchenette and a separate sink from the shower/toilet so that was nice.

We drove by the Harley Museum on our way into downtown-so it was maybe 15 minutes away??

Oooh. This sounds VERY interesting! Thanks. Is the area hard to get around in? WE have never been there before.

I grew up just a few miles from Milwaukee, so will try and help out. The Harley Museum is right downtown, but it's fairly easy to get to off the expressway (I-94). Hotels downtown are very expensive and older, so I would stay outside of town, probably to the south preferably (Franklin, South Milwaukee, airport area, etc). After finding them on Hotwire, go to the actual hotel's website and find the distance to the expressway. As long as you're close to it, you'll have an easy cruise in to downtown. The expressways make sort of a cross on the southside of downtown, with the south leg heading towards Racine/IL, the west leg headed towards Madison, the north leg towards Green Bay, and the east leg into the lake:laughing: As long as the hotel says "easy access to 94" you should be ok.

The art museum downtown right on the lake is unbelievably beautiful, too, if you have time.

Any other questions (or if you want my mom to go check one out in person for you;)) feel free to pm me.

Terri

I am also originally from the Milwaukee area and visit several times a month. I also suggest the new Staybridge Suites on S. 27th St. in Franklin. A few blocks away is a new Pick 'n Save grocery store on Ryan Road. The I-94 is
about 15th & Ryan Road. Every location in the area is easy to navigate. There
are many new hotels built since I've moved(10 years) but several in the 13th and College Ave. area (new Marriott Fairfield). I used to stay at the Country Inn & Suites.

THANKS!! I love the Disboards :cool1:

I would love to stay at Staybridge but would like a cheaper price ;)

Anyone know if Staybridge is ever on Hotwire?

I don't know how far south you're willing to go, but there's a clean but cheap Holiday Inn express on the Hwy 20 exit in Racine (about 20 minutes to the downtown) that all my visiting relatives stay at. A little farther south at the Hwy 50 exit in Kenosha county are about five hotels and lots of restaurants, etc. About 30 minutes to downtown.

Terri

How about either of these?

Comfort Suites airport.

Country Inn and Suites airport.

I wouldn't be opposed to staying 30 min away. We are going to ride our bike up and will be doing some touring around. Thanks.

Hello again! I've stayed at both airport hotels that you have mentioned & both
were ok. I preferred the Country Inn. Now I stay with family. I suggest going to the website of Milwaukee Visitor's & Convention Bureau and request an official visitor's guide. Just click on the guide box at the top of the page. Last year I just phoned them & left a voice message. It came quickly. Did you check the Marriott Fairfield near the airport? (s. 13th and College) The guide may list hotels by geographic area and have maps.

THanks sooooo much!! I will get the visitor's guide!

There's a nice Harley dealership right on the east side of the expressway in Kenosha county almost to the Illinois line (maybe 45 minutes from the museum, DH says it's either the 142 or Hwy 50 exit). It's cool, because the front is a five story "tower" with Harleys in glass fronted cases on each floor. I know lots of Harley people like to visit the different stores! Here's the link http://www.ukeshd.com/

There's also a designer outlet mall just south of there (last exit before IL).

I have stayed at both the Hilton and the Hampton Inn downtown and found both to be quite nice...The Hampton just was redone a couple of years ago. I usually go every year for Summerfest.
There is also a neat little bar downtown called The Safe House, you may enjoy an evening there, Rachel Ray did a segment on it.
I always check around between Hotwire and AAA.

We do like to stop by different shops :) Thanks! It sounds very cool.
I would love to stop at the outlet mall, but don't think DH will go for that ;)

There's a hotel with a Chancery restaurant and bar in it if your DH would prefer a long cold one while you hit the outlets next door ;)
